Recommended Posts

AKM...can swap out PSO-1 and you can sit in the industrial buildings up high sniping and take off the scope for close range enganement.

And while you're presiding over what spray-and-pray weapon you should take, I'm at the top of a tall building centering the sights of my Mosin Nagant on your center of mass. Then I pull the trigger, watch you flop over like a sack of potatos and cover my friend as he picks through your stuff. Muahahahaahahahahah!

Just kidding, I avoid PvP deathmatch zones like Cherno like the plague :P

Edit: A suggestion pertaining to the actual thread, I'd take the MP133 over an AKM. Yeah it's effective range is only 50m but 7.62x39 is so difficult to come across, whereas buckshot cases and piles are so frequent you'd think the ammunition is breeding like bunnies when you're not looking. You know what the effective range of an empty assault rifle is? Zero meters.

akm= better suited for medium to long range engagements

Mp-133= suited for close range engagements

cherno= urban area with tall structures and long streets

combat in cherno= short to medium range with most engagements happening between 30m and 100m

winner= AKM

I'll see you in Chernogorsk, let's see how much your AKM can take

... That's so wrong it hurts. The effective range of an assault rifle is 300m generally speaking, so you're not using the weapon to it's full capability within 30-100m

The shotgun on the other hand is effective up to 50m. So crunching numbers, with a shotgun (using your wildly inaccurate measurements of combat in a city btw) you only have to close 50m to get within your effective killing range. With an AKM you'd have to distance yourself from your target 270-200m to get the full potential of your weapon.

Which isn't to say that an AKM (or any assault rifle for that matter) is less effective at close quarters, the weapon will still function at 30-100m but a weapon actually suited for the job is a shotgun. Use the right tool for the job and you're more likely to have success.

Also again, AKM ammunition you either have to be very lucky to find or go to high risk places to aquire (ie: military spawns/airfields) whereas buckshot is quite actually -everywhere-.

which one should I choose?

Neither, this isnt a pvp game and your setting yourself up for disappointment in the next few months as they adjust loot. I suggest Arma 3.

I get it that thats about all there is to do in the game. But in the near future you wont have your choice of weapons anymore. At least not until they let people mod. If you want to tryhard on DayZ, I would recommend you use both and learn as much as you can so your not left clueless and experienced when you no longer have your pick of gear.

Its a zombie survival simulation game. Right now the survival part is to easy so people pvp. That aspect will lessen as the game matures. At least until the  "24zfreelooTZ spawn with gunzzz and car!AS" servers go up.

Just because there is pvp doesnt make it the focus.

Lol you certainly have played the mod. I feel sorry for you, you are going to be sorely disappointed then

AKM with drummags would be easiest to use. If you had 3 drums, you'd be set for a nice little killing session. But, as others said, your supply of ammunition is pretty much limited to what you haul into town. Shotgun is also easy to hit with, but if you miss your first shot and he has an automatic, you're shit out of luck.

It's up to preference (lousy answer, I know). But both are good weapons for the urban combat you are preparing for. If you want to ambush from second floor windows and such, AKM might be better suited for the job. If you plan on running people down, go with the shotgun. My two cents.

In what way?

If your post is to imply that the devs are not doing a good job your vision is... limited....

What? How the hell did you get from that to that. I never mentioned the devs. What I said is if you think the game will become less PvP as it goes down the track you are going to be a very sad panda.

I absolutely think PvP will become less frequent as the game progresses. Not to say it will become the less popular playstyle....but when you cant fire a shot in a town/city for being swamped by zombies then its gonna make people think weather its worth it just to kill a bambie :)

My personal opinion, the zombies will never be a issue, they will never be able to get the AI to act like we all want them to act, there will never be "swarms" that are unmanageable to a kitted character. Not sure why you threw bambies in there though, anyone who camps spawns to kill freshies is just an unskilled wannabe.

Iv pulled some epic hordes in the mod...that if they didn't walk indoors woulda been....challenging... lets say lol to deal with. But its like that in any game, once your used to it the threat drops loads. I love l4d2 and when I first started I was hiding from hordes in rooms and waiting till they were all dead on advanced. Now we rush expert like its a joke, as long as to new players the zeds are a challenge and can instill some fear that each time ya enter a town you could die...regardless of players or not, then its about right. Being a vet you should be able to deal with thembetter but they should be able to catch ya out every now and then if you get complacent. At least then its the vets PvPing and the newbies learning the ropes and surviving zeds. As it stands now there is no "surviving the zeds" so the gearing up process isn't important, hence rampant PvP everywhere.

Well that's what I think anyways, guess wel both have to wait and see :)
