how to find out who killed you?

Recommended Posts

hi,

i was playing on a (mostly) vanilla server (fr129) and killed a guy. he then announced my name in side chat and told everyone i killed him.

how did he find out it was me? i didn't talk to him and wasn't killed in days...

nameplates are off on this server. also i did shoot him in the back, he should not have seen me at all.

thx

I've also seen servers which tell the killer's name in the "study body" display.

Not very realistic, but all death messages aren't in the first place

I find kill/death messages to be useful and game enhancing. If you follow them closely, you can quickly work out who is a threat and thus how to approach them.

I really disliked this feature when we used to play on 3480.  All it really did was incite teenage drama QQ bullshit.  We got so sick of people calling us out on side chat, whining, accusing us of hacking, bitching, moaning, shit talking, etc.  My favorite was when you'd snipe a guy at 400 meters that's at a full sprint, but take a few shots to get him (hey, moving/zig-zagging targets are tough), and they'd call your name out yelling "SHIT SHOT!  YOU'RE PATHETIC!"...not even able to realize that they're admitting to the entire server that they were killed by a "shit shot".

The only thing we found it useful for was being able to report hackers to admins, but the negatives far outweighed the positive.  US434 recently removed death messages entirely and it's been fantastic.  Fights are so much more tense now, and when you hear gunshots in the distance it's hard to discern whether it's PvP or someone shooting zombies.

We'll be moving away from these crutches slowly.  Next will be crosshairs and then after that we'll remove waypoints so you can't ghetto range finders.  Players will have to use the map and the topography to navigate.

Hey Geryon, I have recently returned to playing DayZ and have made myself at home on your server, a lot has changed since I used to play but I was wondering if there is a way to check my humanity on your server?

Leigno press i and that will open up your journal.  Open the journal by click it and you'll see all the debug information including your humanity.
