Why is the draw distance so bad?

Seriously, it's about 1000 meters, wtf?

And don't even get me started on the night time draw distance, 400 meters MAYBE?

Come on, let is see some stuff further than the end of our noses.

ArmA 3 will have Hi-Res Draw Distance, no worries man...wait till September :)

Arma 2 already has it in singleplayer, that's why I'm so confused.

And arma 3 is 2013.


No one else is bothered by this?

I am. Greatly! I dont mind having 1000 draw distance so much as the fact that the foliage, textures and shadows become total crap past 200m! I have everything maxed out, i even looked for some possible .ini or commandline tweaks. But so far i have found nothing that would let the detailed draw distance be like it is when you are zoomed in at all times. Thats a bare minimum! There are some lovely ground texture mods for Arma 2, can we use them in Day-z?

1600 meters view distance total.

Between 1000 meters and 1150 the fog starts and "ends" at 1600, the value set in the mission file.

Setting 1600 or setting 6000 does not change a thing.

Nope.

Also if your not +60fps constantly with the current draw distance your pc would probably melt if they increased it

The setting are server based, and are pretty low most of the time to ensure that everybody can play with a decent fps. Arma2 already has a 10km draw distance ( but for objects is 2-3km max ) no need to wait for arma3

It's set in the mission file, not the server.

Wonder if there are any servers that would draw grass, shadows etc to atleast 1000m?

As it is now, I cant feel safe prone in high grass because that sniper trying to kill me is over 500m away and he sees me like being prone on green lake.

This game DID come out in '09. And atm, the grass IS pointless. It prevents me from seeing you, but not you from seeing me. Hence why in most servers that allow it (non-dayz servers) I turn it off. Just like in oblivion. But at least the grass goes a bit farther in arma2 than oblivion.

I dont want the overall draw distance increased. I want the objects, grass and trees to be drawn in full render within 600-900m.
