Game runs smoothly then freezes for a second and then the fps goes to about 5

I start the game and everything is fine and then i get into the game and everything goes smoothly and it happens at random times my game freezes for a second and then my game goes to about five fps and my arms start glitching out of my shirts, does anyone else get this problem? because it never use to happen before.

You describe similar problems a friend of mine has started having with his system (freezes/frame throttling). His issues are not restricted to DayZ though and are probably software related. Does this also occur on other game titles for yourself and could you provide your system specifications?

If by any chance you are running 32-Bit try upgrading to 64. Had the same problem and this actually solved it.

I periodically had similar freezing/stuttering problem. The frame rate would be chugging along at 25-30FPS and then it would suddenly drop into the low single digits.This seemed to coincide with a lot of hard drive activity. I assumed that the game was struggling with loading textures, but we all know what happens when we assume, eh? So, a couple of updates ago I deleted all of my local content and downloaded a fresh copy of the game to a SSD. This has solved my problem, but whether it was the fresh install, or the SSD is anyone's guess.
