Food/Drink cooldowns lessened

Recommended Posts

I think it would add more realism if you didn't need a drink of water every 30min just to stay alive. The Day/Night cycles already follow realistic times, and I think the eating patterns should also.

To adjust for this I would make food/drink spawns less common, making it harder to get food. At the same time you only need to eat around 2-3 meals a day, and drink maybe 5-6 times a day to stay healthy. In real survivor mode, you would be able to keep active for several hours without needing a drink of water.

I get what you are saying but I like the food and water system as it forces me to be on my toes, where am I going to get my next meal, where am I going to get hydrated from.

Also I don't understand what you mean 2-3 meals a day, wouldn't that ruin the purpose of food, plus you don't play Day Z for 24 hours do you?

Granted I don't pay that close of attention to the clock while I'm playing, but I'm pretty sure that if you're drinking water every 30 minutes, you're drinking too often. Keep in mind that the meter can get unmistakeably red before you even get close to the point where you're penalized in any way. So if you look at your thirst meter and it's just "kinda red, but maybe more brown", save that Pepsi for a little while longer.

Edit: Though by all means, maybe it does get "red to the point of blinking" in 30 minutes. Like I said, I don't watch the clock that often when playing.

If food was more rare (like it would be in a zombie apocalypse) then you would still be on your toes. I don't play for 24 hours, but the night/day times still follow that cycle (contrary to many other games), so why not the food/water? It would be really cool if once I had 24 hours playing time on my character, it felt like an actual day had passed

I think this is a awesome idea. I think you should be able to get away with only one meal and drink a day because you can in real life BUT i think food should be MUCH harder to find AND I think you should get progressively worse reaction from being hungry and thirsty. Like your speed should be reduced gradually as you get more hungry until you're just hobbling along when it's in red along with other negative effects.

This goes along with another thread but a good addition to this would be different types of food and drink give you different levels of sustenance. like beans and soda give you only a little bit of your food meter back and maybe they even deplete faster then say water and meat.

Well look at it this way, you aren't getting a full meal each time you eat. And if you stood around instead of running around the map, you wouldn't have to eat so much.

So really, you need to slow it down some. I eat like 2 cooked meat in a few hours, so this "every 30 minutes" tells me you are eating too soon and running too much.
