What do you think of this:

Players can elect whether or not they want to participate in PVP on character start. If they do, they can pick up and arm any weapon/suit in the game but can only kill other people who elect to play PVP. Those who don't are limited to pistols and will NEVER be able to PVP. You can delineate the two with skins and maybe chat designations. Of course Zeds remain fair game for both.

What do you think? Bandits an survivors can go at it if they wish, those that just want to hunt Zeds and form groups are equally given their wish.

Well, not saying get rid of PVP, just give people a choice with the appropriate risk/reward.

Well there's a few major flaws, there would be no absolutely no risk while griefing.

Currently people doing shady stuff like blocking off indoor areas with barbed wire/tank traps have the small chance of being shot if someone catches them doing it. A pvp immune player could do it anywhere they wanted, they could even actively kill players by deploying barbed wire on them but that's also a bug that needs to be fixed anyway.

Pvp immune players could also raid any major loot spawn area at absolutely no risk. Once you learn the basic zombie ai, they're a decent strech from dangerous. Pvp-enabled players would gradually starve to death since the damage immune players would be looting with impunity.

You would also have damage immune players hording the limited spawn vehicles, because you're both unable to take it from them and I assume the vehicle would also be immune to damage since they opted out.

Those are just off the top of my head. I'm sure other problems would immediately arise as well.

I understand what you mean, but in my own opinion PvP's meant to be there as a constant threat. The idea of this being a survival game suggests survival is a big factor, and taking the PvP away as a factor kinda takes away the biggest threat to survival in my opinion.

The game experts aren't looting for cities for food, they're hunting and grilling and such. Likewise for drinking with canteens and bottles of water.

No changes to vehicle mechanics. At any people hoarding vehicles would be a problem, in that case make vehicles unenterable/repairable by players that are in non-PvP status. The point is, full DayZ experience for full PVPers, lighter, less satisfying experience for those who opt out.

Or, servers with PvP enabled and servers without.

"I want to be able to grief people without them shooting me"

That's all I read from the OP. If this happens, I would gather everyone I know together, assign them to random people, and loot anything they ran across, block doorways, steal vehicles, hide bodies and attract zombies to them.

Dumb idea and defeats the purposes of the game, A SANDBOX SURVIVAL MOD with zombies.

There are a lot of players that don't want it. Of course, not playing/take it or leave it is also an option.

Again, I'm saying offer a choice with positives and negatives associated with each choice. Why, given an option, do you think too many people would opt for Non-PVP play?

I'm not really against non-pvp servers existing, it doesn't hurt anyone as long as characters made there have to stay there. If some people only want to group up and fight zombies that's fine, it's really not effecting anyone else and there shouldn't be objections to it.

I still believe it will be a griefer's paradise though, to be honest.

Yes a mod that is about the zombie apocalypse and all the dangers, problems etc should have an option for PVP to be removed, sorry but that is never going to happen.

These "opt-in for PvP" suggestions are completely counter intuitive to the entire design of DayZ' date=' despite the game not being fully created with PvP in mind. I disagree with this suggestion. And also, for further reference, use the suggestions forum for suggesting changes to the game.

Yeah that's pretty much my opinion on this. Taking away the PvP aspect for a portion of gamers makes what DayZ sets out to do redundant.

New simple idea for this PVP debate... ready for it...

IF YOU DONT WANT TO PVP, FUCK OFF TO ANOTHER GAME/MOD?

Also w/o PvP there would be nothing to this game... Find guns to shoot zombies that have little to no chance to kill me lol

The game is non-consensual PvP. similar to EVE online. You cant just make rules that destroy the spirit of the anti-game that this is. Stop stressing, and either make friends OR defend yourself!
