Longs 42 Posted July 1, 2012 I was thinking perhaps a few things in game could be tweeked to make surviving a lot harder. I mean it's tough atm but how about changing some things with regard to how food and water work, for example:A penalty for drinking water from some sources or needing to purify it perhaps?Cans of food, needing to find a tin opener or one of those swiss army knives to open it. I realise a lot of cans are ring pull now but it would add an element to the food situation.Food spoiling and preserving. Maybe have meat from hunted animals spoil after a time but have the ability to preserve it through drying, salting or smoking it.Weapon maintenace, maybe have weapons degrade if they are not looked after?I don't know if any of this is possible, I was just thinking while stuck at work with nothing to do :P. I apologise if these have already been suggested, I did a search but too many threads came up for me to check through
DevilDog (DayZ) 455 Posted July 1, 2012 I don't mind the weapon cleaning thing. Would suck to get shot in the face while your SVD is in pieces on your lap lol. Ever play STALKER? It sucked when you would be in the middle of a fire fight and your shit would start to jam, but it is certainly realistic. The canned food thing is a bit much. If it comes down to me starving I will bash the can open with a rock. The water thing could go in. A slight chance of getting dysentery or something if you don't have iodine pills. As for the smoking/salting thing I just assume I am actually doing that rather than BBQing the steaks now lol. Zeromentor 169 Posted July 1, 2012 The water thing might happen. The food idea is dumb. Cooked meat easily lasts 2+ days if you don't leave it somewhere that insects can get in it. And canned food? Tin Can, meet Hard Rock, now I have food anyhow.Weapon maintance might not be possible with this engine, plus most people don't live long enough to wear down their weapon. Most of my assault rifles only get 4-5 magazines through them before I die. Maybe 8 max.

None lives long enough to worry about it lol. I realise you could bash a can open on a rock. You can also punch a zombie in the face knocking him on his ass or cup some water from a lake in your hand for a drink yet you can't do this in Dayz. As I said most cans have ring pulls, I was just thinking of making it a little harder finding food.
SwissArmy (DayZ) 5 Posted July 1, 2012 Just because people don't last long enough for now doesn't mean that the weapon maintenance and food spoilage shouldn't go in. You should need to find a gun cleaning kit at some point. Water purification should also be a concern.I'd like to see more knives, hatchets, etc. as weapons to stab and bash with. I wouldn't mind some sort of "shove" ability to knock the odd zombie off balance. At the moment they seem so buggy when they run at me lol that it might be more trouble trying to shove them.
