floomoo 21 Posted June 30, 2012 Hey guys,Had this idea a little while ago while talking to some buddies and shooting some players. Many of us want to be the good guy, help others and survive together, but we can never trust eachother. We always end up blowing someones ass off in fear of our own ass being blown off.My idea to combat this problem. Have an in game option (most likely through he 'mouse-wheel menu') to 'Team Up' with a player. This feature can be used when two players are facing eachother, weapons are in lowered mode, and within a certain distance (say 10 metres). One player selects the 'Team Up' option first, and the other player is prompted to accept or decline through a non-intrusive pop-up in one of the games bottom corners (by non-intrusive I mean the player can still move etc, otherwise this could be used as an exploit to freeze players to kill them). To select accept or decline, the player must be within distance and have there weapon lowered, and selects one these options using the 'mouse menu'. The option times out after 30 seconds.Once two players are in 'Team Up' mode, friendly fire is disabled between these two players, and the players are displayed to eachother on the HUD. Perhaps a teamed up player could also be displayed as a waypoint (if you have used one in-game you'll agree with this) and are tracked in the same way with the arrow, distance and direction. Please if you agree or have any feedback on this idea I'd love to hear it. Plus if we post like mad-little monkeys the devs might see this and perhaps get some motivation from it. If you do read this Dean, I'm a Kiwi too, served in the forces as well, so when you're a big shot Dev running a multi-billionaire gaming company just remember one thing... floomoo.Happy Hunting
Daks-SiN 1 Posted June 30, 2012 The problem with this idea is that it kind of goes against whats going on here. This game about immersion and people being people. If you listen/watch to the PCgamer interview with rocket. He talks about wanting to not even have a hud - and it seems the only reason he didn't do it was because it became difficult to show if you were hungry, thirsty, cold etc..A pop up disabling friendly fire is too much interference with the basic concept of the game. floomoo 21 Posted June 30, 2012 Fair point DAKS. Perhaps using this idea without any HUD would go best?
Daks-SiN 1 Posted June 30, 2012 Even so I dont think friendly fire will ever be disabled. Personally the only way I see people being more willing to cooperate is by making the game harder to be solo or introduce fun game concepts which are almost impossible to achieve solo. AcucracK 0 Posted June 30, 2012 I like the group idea, and have had thought about different ways to do it as well. The other incentive that may work with the group idea would be to increase the drop percentage of the less likely to drop items when working as a team than when playing solo. Another idea might be once you are officially grouped in game, teams have the ability to communicate in game. In game voice chat could be heard by everyone in your group, as well as the group chat. This would help players who meet in game have a way to play/communicate with each other.
Daks-SiN 1 Posted June 30, 2012 Don't you think having items have a higher drop percentage with groups would be going against the open sandbox experience?I don't think you should reward or punish people for playing in groups or solo. Surely being in a group would be advantage enough without suddenly being rewarded with extra loot; and surviving in dayz alone should be hard enough a punishment then having less items about to survive from. AcucracK 0 Posted June 30, 2012 It is just a suggestion to try and change what has become a shoot everyone you see on sight survival game.A possible counter to the increased chance of items dropping would be an increase of zombies that spawn in the area you are raiding. Daks-SiN 1 Posted June 30, 2012 I think as the game fleshes out a bit more, in terms of what there is to do, and the balance of difficulty is adjusted we will see less mindless violence.I know its a bit of a catch phrase but "its in alpha" comes to mind.Personally, I doubt we're going to see any drastic changes in the management of the players in this game/social experiment until a lot later down the lines, if at all. AcucracK 0 Posted June 30, 2012 Isn't alpha the time to experiment with new ideas like this?Personally, I am lucky and have a group of friends I have been gaming with for a long time all playing this game, so we can group up and use Vent for in game communication. But a lot of other people are not so lucky.Other people new to the game are coming in and trying to survive a zombie apocalypse only to find that everyone they meet just shoots them on sight. Then they find there is no way to communicate to these other players, and start doing the same thing. Some of these players may even come to the forums to express their experience, or state they want grouping and some form of communication with others, only to be called care bears or noobs by someone. If the alpha stage is not the time to be trying new/drastic changes in game, when is? KnobbyFTW93 0 Posted July 1, 2012 Hey floo, What a great idea, this would add a bit of relief to players worried about others "teaming up with them" and then killing them. I agree with this suggestion and wouldn't mind hearing from the devs about your idea.Good work bro, keep it up :)K
