Where to find water pumps?

Managed to have a long stint of survival by heading north, but I eventually died while trying to hunt down some cans of pop near Gvozdno. Anyway, I'd heard of water pumps before, but never really saw any, so I'm wondering if I just managed to miss them or if they're terribly rare. Do they often have a usual location (behind a barn or something?)

Check the map (will have to zoom in relatively close) over towns; the small fountain symbol represents water fountains though I have found that not ALL of these are accessible.

You can also refill your canteen at any water source, including the ocean. Be weary though, as you can lose your pack while swimming, and you'll have to swim into most sources of fresh water in order to see the 'Refill Canteen' option.

Nope.

Those are empty park water fountains.

Water fountains are actually small dark grey squares on your map. (they are only *slightly* darker than houses) and some of them can be very hard to see on your map even at full zoom) i have a 100% hit rate with this. Example: at gorka near the church walls in close vicinity to the fountain icon jord mention there is a little grey square. that infact is the water fountain. Example 2: there are 2 pumps in stary sobor, see if you can find them.

There's one that works just outside the southern barracks on the NW airfield. I recommend everyone lug all their empty water bottles up there right this instant and form an orderly queue.
