The 1911 is a military handgun. The G17 is used primarily by law enforcement and also it might be lag, hit box, etc.

You want stopping power go for larger calibres. G-17 is quiet, fast, has a big clip and a torch.

You're comparing a 9MM handgun to .45 cal pistols though... Its going to have a lot less stopping power. Assuming you're shooting in its effective range i believe its about 3 shots to kill vs 1 (VS zeds that is) however the G17 does have the benefit of having a flash light on it at least which is a small reason I'd ever pick one up.
