Is there something wrong with Direct Chat?

Last night me and 2 friends were playing (US77, I think was the server), and while looting a house we spotted another player running by outside.

2 of us tried Direct Chat (text) and realized it wasn't working... it would appear to work to the person doing the typing, but the communication didn't show up on-screen for the other 2 people, despite the fact that we were all sitting within a couple meters of each other.

Was this just a random glitch, can/do some servers turn off ALL communication? I believe when we joined the server (via SixLauncher), it fed us an Arma2 beta patch update, so maybe it's a glitch with that??

The chat is really buggy which is why in my opinion there is a lot of player killing.Its hard to communicate and ask if they are friendly and meet other survivers to adventure with. They should add better chat and or radios to help with ingame communication.

I got shot on DE7 because I think the other players did not hear me or see my text -.- I even lowered my weapon(hatchet :DD) and saluted, but was still greeted with a magload of 5.56×45mm. I only wanted to be loved :,
