General character / gear wipe discussion (NOT global wipe)

I couldn't find a thread that deals with the bug / glitch induced character / gear wipes.

 

So on this stable / first person, I've had three occurences where the character is wiped and I start as fresh spawn in the past 10 days.

 

Before I go on, I was not killed, I joined the same server after restart (no message received since 11 seconds....) and I DID NOT get the warning message about the character not being able to be loaded.

 

I figured out what my mistake was this time.

 

When I rejoin a server that was reset, I've noticed it takes a while for the time to actually be set. So the process is, for example

- Server finishes (no message received since 11 seconds....)

- I exit the game

- I refresh server list

- my server shows up with game time being 08:00 o'clock

-> if I join now my character is wiped!!

 

- I wait and refresh, wait and refresh

- my server shows up with game time being 10:20 o'clock

- I wait and refresh, wait and refresh

- my server shows up with game time being 12:00 o'clock

- I wait and refresh, wait and refresh

- my server shows up with game time being 12:01 o'clock

-> now I can join without being wiped.

 

When I do get wiped, I noticed that the initial "Waiting for host...." screen takes way too long. That's another indicator something is wrong.

 

But after a server restarts, wait for the time to actually progress by a minute to make sure you don't encounter a wipe.

 

I look forward to getting feedback from other players that have had this.

I did explain this about 3 times now. Let me find my post.

 

 

I posted a workaround on this, but it got merged into "I quit / This game is bullshit" thread.

 

Let me quote myself:

 

If a server went down due to restart and you connect again on the same server, this will cause you to be a freshspawn. Connect elsewhere, then connect on the server that restarted earlier. If you connect to the restarted server and find yourself a bambi, DO NOT just reconnect there! It WILL wipe your character, connect elsewhere first! If you notice a ridiculous long "wait for host" the server is about to wipe your char, disconnect!

 

Or: just wait before you connect to the same server. If you are getting "Waiting for host" more than 5 seconds. Hit escape and try again a minute later on the same server.

 

 

/edit: Admins keep merging the topics though, so people have a hard time to find this easily (Yea I know it's not intended but seriously, why do you do this? Aren't you too tired of reading this posts? Why don't you finally sticky it in troubleshooting.)

Thanks for correcting me, the message is "Waiting for host...."

 

And I agree, this topic should get its own thread since it happens quite frequently to a lot of people.
