quinny 0 Posted August 16, 2014 If any of you have played ea games like fifa, madden etc there is an option where you can put your face onto your character ingame, so your character ingame will look like you in real life. i think this will be really good for dayz as it will bring a bit of unique character customization to the game and all the characters wont look the same and you will be able to tell who friendlies or bandits are. i was wondering if its possible to do this and if you would think about it but i think its will be a great idea if you can add it into the game. Mark Darkers 151 Posted August 16, 2014 Well the thing is, in arma 2 and arma 3 this is possible by going to the documents-(your arma version)and placing a texture file called face/face1, this skin then becomes a face option (character selection). The thing is, even though it is your face on it, the model does not represent the shapes, so you won't recognize yourself in it. Secondly, most people do not know how to make a proper texture unwrap of their own photographs. And third but most important. If every one had a different face ingame, this would mean that for the basic texture of the character, hundreds of different materials have to be rendered in game (draw calls per material on a player is already high with every item having it's own material and draw-call towards gpu). For instance: 3 players fully geared out, but with same base textures (body skin) will have around 20 drawcalls. The base skin gets batched and only gets drawn once for all 3 characters. Now if they would all have different body skins (custom face) then for each character 2-3 drawcalls extra get added and if 3 players stand next to each other this is 9 extra draw-calls (sort off) towards the gpu. Now you think 9 is not much, but keep in min 100 player servers are coming, so that would be 900 extra draw-calls, for something you barely notice ingame. This render space could be used for much more important aspects to render out. I hope this makes some sence. And don't worry maybe in the future a mod will support it.
