assassinofkings151 38 Posted August 8, 2014 (edited) So guys thought id kick start a thread for all us DayZ Mod players relating to the popularity of private hive servers at the moment now that the public hive is pretty much a corpse and buried for the time being. My main question as you can see by the title is regarding DayZ "Clans" as I like to call them but you can call them "Groups" or whatever floats your boat I suppose. The main predicament I have with clans on these servers is the fact that 1) members of the clan are either donators or friends of private hive admins and so get unwarranted "freebies" should I say... or 2) They just take "the game" too damn seriously... now just for a bit of context on the kind of examples or debates I'm trying to bring up here id like to reference a particular server (Which shall not be named) in specific terms an "Epoch" server (I know, I know just hear me out okay?) in which a particular clan might as well have been a virus the way it manifested on the admins and the complete running of the server... 1st example: Me and my friend travelled from Stary to Pobeda Dam to go and complete a mission, after finding a rather comfy spot to survey the situation the server was restarted due to the fact that a couple of members of the "Clan" had been getting lag issues. Even though this decision went to vote and the majority voted against it (And may I say this majority were non-clan members) the server was still restarted anyway in favour of these malicious bastards, 2nd Example: Again, Me and 5 of my friends armed with DMR's and 1 AS50 decided to roam around completing missions for gold.... (SIDENOTE: THIS SERVER HAD TANKS/JETS/ARMED HELICOPTERS ENABLED, so maybe I was asking for a butt fucking right?) however we continuously died (No tears, not yet...) due to the fact the clan of about 5 members were going around in an Apache AH1 and an Stryker MGS not completing this missions, but using the thermal optics to kill people around them and then taunt them over chat (this was at no point challenged by an Admin...) 3rd Example: When Me and My friends were eventually able to save up 12 briefcases (don't ask me how we grinded for that, it was immense considering what we were up against) we bought our very own Stryker and decided to see if we could go and genuinely complete missions with it to get an influx in gold. Unfortunately for us although successfully blowing up one of the clans tanks in the process (which resulted in a declaration of war from their clan on me and my measly group of 5 other peasants. pathetic right?) we were ousted by not 1 but 2 Apaches! (Apaches are 12 briefcases/Stryker is also 12) 36 briefcases?? even by clan standards that's ridiculous considering these guys also had 2 momentous concrete bases obviously paid for by admins. And what happened after this you ask? Well the tank wasnt a big loss for them, considering they had another one apparently and were using that one just for "shits and giggles" as it was stated. Overall the past is the past and those server days are behind me. So what are your guys views on this kind of behaviour, I know there's nothing we can do about it and its best to steer clear. But do you condone this? is it really good for the community as a whole? I guess you could argue a 5 man squad armed with DMR's on an original DayZ mod server is perhaps not "good" for the community but I guess its better than the unfair advantage that comes with Epoch of hoarding shit like a shit stacker. rn_max 202 Posted August 8, 2014 I'm not a fan of private hives because most of them can't resist meddling with what isn't broken, ending up with a bambi toyland more often than not. Internet gaming clans often aren't the most objective or mature demographic, particularly when they open their little bubble world to the public, so asshattery is not surprising.
assassinofkings151 38 Posted August 9, 2014 This is why you never plan on clan servers. Most of the time, they have illegal benefits. Problem is, their are no "Clan Servers" anymore :/ seems to be they congregate to one random server they can all connect reasonably too and just ruin it for the rest of people. I know exactly where your coming from. For me i've seen clans that automatically arm bambi's or transport them around Chernaraus for no charge, which for me withdraws from some of the experience. The complete opposite of massacring bambi's can also be equally destructive as well. What makes me laugh the most is the "hardcores" that side with clans because they themselves have benefited from such a system :L
Tek (DayZ) 95 Posted August 11, 2014 The main predicament I have with clans on these servers is the fact that 1) members of the clan are either donators or friends of private hive admins and so get unwarranted "freebies" should I say... This is why finding a good "legit" server is so important and so very difficult. You have to be choosy and you have to be observant. But once you find it things are good. The problem is the server owners/admins that play favorites make it seem like all admins play favorites (which isn't the case). But perception is huge. or 2) They just take "the game" too damn seriously... Can you define this "too seriously" bit? What do you mean? I play this game because it's fun. But I also play to be successful. So if I use tactics that allow me get the better of you, does that mean I'm playing too seriously? 1st example: Me and my friend travelled from Stary to Pobeda Dam to go and complete a mission, after finding a rather comfy spot to survey the situation the server was restarted due to the fact that a couple of members of the "Clan" had been getting lag issues. Even though this decision went to vote and the majority voted against it (And may I say this majority were non-clan members) the server was still restarted anyway in favour of these malicious bastards, Sounds like some of those bad admins that make all admins look bad. 2nd Example: Again, Me and 5 of my friends armed with DMR's and 1 AS50 decided to roam around completing missions for gold.... (SIDENOTE: THIS SERVER HAD TANKS/JETS/ARMED HELICOPTERS ENABLED, so maybe I was asking for a butt fucking right?) however we continuously died (No tears, not yet...) due to the fact the clan of about 5 members were going around in an Apache AH1 and an Stryker MGS not completing this missions, but using the thermal optics to kill people around them and then taunt them over chat (this was at no point challenged by an Admin...) So, vehicles with thermal that are allowed in game (correct me if i'm wrong) took you out and others out not allowed to do that to players around missions? Or is that you saying that's bad form? I'm confused, because if they can buy that chopper from a vendor, then they can use that chopper how they want (without hacking). 3rd Example: When Me and My friends were eventually able to save up 12 briefcases (don't ask me how we grinded for that, it was immense considering what we were up against) we bought our very own Stryker and decided to see if we could go and genuinely complete missions with it to get an influx in gold. Unfortunately for us although successfully blowing up one of the clans tanks in the process (which resulted in a declaration of war from their clan on me and my measly group of 5 other peasants. pathetic right?) we were ousted by not 1 but 2 Apaches! And what happened after this you ask? Well the tank wasnt a big loss for them, considering they had another one apparently and were using that one just for "shits and giggles" as it was stated. So you blew up a big clans tank and are surprised that they retaliated against you? I'm confused. If your striker was for "shits and giggles" then why did you spend 12 briefcases of gold for one? Seems like a gross waste of money. I will never play on hive servers again. Hacking and ghosting is ridiculous. Private servers allow admins to control/kick hackers, and you have no ghosting issues. Like I said in the beginning...you have to find the servers with good admins who have actual integrity and morals. Those are the servers you put in favorites.
