I miss the public hive

True, but the flip side is that the public hives was a good anti-carebear tool.  Most (not quite all), but most of the public hive servers played by the public hive rules and kept server settings at the DayZ mod defaults.  You hardly ever saw shit like DMRs spawning in the super market in Elektro, Ospreys fully repaired on the coast, bicycles littered in every coastal town, fully repaired vehicles on restart, 24/7 daytime, etc etc etc.  I gladly took the server hopping and combat logging as it was far less frustrating than trying to find a private hive that actually ran real settings.  The private hives were largely just a popularity contest, and the server that added the more shit got more clients.

Personally we don't have that problem, since we're aiming for a more traditional gameplay experience, but yeah, I can see where you're going with that and it does make sense.

Even now after so long, its still sad to see the private servers and hackers, also the lack of players playing. The worst is seeing all the old youtube videos of people playign and talking about the hardcore aspects and the public hive. If there was any way to get those public servers back I would totally do it.

Private servers and hackers? What vanilla server are you playing on and supporting if I may ask? There are SEVERAL very good vanilla DayZ Mod servers out there.

The hive won't be coming back, writing posts about it here is kind of useless. Playing on and supporting a vanilla server however will make a difference.

This exactly, we have been trying to bring back the hive experience across multiple servers, whilst not crazy populated they have not been up for long.  The idea is still pretty fresh and we don't advertise it much.

Trust me dude, when i find a server with hackers (which are not as prevelant, because of Dayz SA) or wierd rules (400+ vehicles and all that jazz) i dont support it and I look for a different one. There are still some good vanilla servers but most are not just good old dayz. The Europa server and US 434 or some good ones, and illbe trying to support and help them and all other good vanilla dayz servers. I apoligize also, i shouldnt have grouped all the dayz servers into one "bad" server list, but like i said,  the fact that we even have to pick out the normal or good servers amongst all the other bad ones is not good.

Truth is: I don't think a lot of people remember what true "Good Old DayZ" is anymore. And that description in itself is very vague. We mostly remember when it started going to sh*t, which was when people started making extensive mods and adding a bunch of cars. Some will say the "vanilla" is the standard non-modded current version. But even this is quite different from the experience I remember back in 2012. Since we all have a different opinion of what is good old, we all make our server according to what we think it was. Either that, or some just don't care and cram as many mods in it as possible.

I remember back in the turn of the Millenium, when Unreal Tournament 99 multiplayer got destroyed because all you could find was heavily modded servers with snipers only maps.
