Barricading roads.

Recommended Posts

So when barricading is finaly in, i assume its more boarding up windows with planks. But i had an idea that we could place barricades on roads. The idea is that we can gather bits and pieces like tyres, planks, car doors, anything to make a barricade/ wall so we can lock down parts of towns and make our bases.

What do you think guys? Rather than making those ridiculous buildings that were in epoch just use whats already available. Or simple shacks. Both would be great.

I think that they should be able to be destroyed by other players who have the proper tools, but this isn't a bad idea at all. Once vehicles are added, imagine approaching a town only to find that it's been taken over by bandits andthe roads have been roadblocked, forcing you to stop or try to drive around on the grass.

So... Just tank traps and barb wire from the mod, but with different skins?

Yes exactly like that. Other players can take it down if they have the proper tools. But its not just as a roadblock but also acts as a defensive wall for your base. Think woodbury from the walking dead. Improvised doors too.

Yes. Everything like tank traps. You want to place shit in a road to stop people from driving over it. 100% like tank traps.

Yes and no! Yes it would prevent people from driving over it but a tank trap isn't a barricade or a roadblock, think the Battle of Normandy from well any game or movie that includes it, just a tank trap won't stop a person or zed from walking around it, he's talking more like a chest high wall or larger that would stop entry into an area unless you could tear it down, which I am 100% against in pre established towns (read assholes will barricade and camp the prime loot spawns) barricading a house or room in a large building maybe but not so much for things like fire stations police stations etc.

Clearing and barricading say Elektro as an example should be a no, some fringe town or a player built base in te wilderness is fine

Hence why I mentioned barbed wire in the first post.

Look up a tank trap then watch the walking dead season 3, look at the walls in woodbury. They are diffefent.

Are you seriously suggesting trying to build walls like that? I hope not because that would be immensely time consuming and bag space wrenching. If an MP5K takes 16 slots how much would a HUGE hunk of metal wall take?

Player buildings are confirmed in the first place everyone agrees you shouldn't be allowed to "wall-in" public play space (ie: Elekto or NWAF) I imagine construction will take up 12-15 slots per item (MP5K only takes 12 slots btw) and it will require some hunting to find the components per item(wood, nails etc) it's not meant to be easy or quick (aside from say boarding up a farm house) also it's a game if a 20 foot section of wall only takes up 20 slots it doesn't matter the only thing I care about in terms of player barricades is that with the right tools I can tear it down and that it doesn't give some ass the ability to password his server for 12 hours an claim Elekto as his "house" a building in Elektro sure but not whole cities

Ok so if thats your reasoning, then how will a player fit a car door into their backpack when they need to repair the car. Solution carry small parts at a time. Worried about time consuming? Your playing the wrong game.

I didn't realise a car needs all its doors so it can drive. You must be a master Mechanic.

No no. This is the right game. It takes about 20 minutes to get a gun and some ammo, then I can server hop and get in a death match. MMORPGs or MOBAs are time consuming, DayZ. Not so much.

Doors stop bullets! Doors are cool!

Also DayZ is time consuming especially if you're server hopping that's a 100 seconds a pop, factor in the fact your only playing it like it's a final product designed as a shooter an not a massively multiplayer survival horror game. So it really sounds like by launch this really won't be the game for you.

That's not how I play all the time, it's how I play when I am short of time. That's my Normal character. My HC character I dabble around for more than 30 minutes a pop traversing the west of the map shoot at shit for jokes.

I don't expect you to have seen it, but one interview Dean is doing he really stresses being able to use different parts on a vehicle like bringing a door from another vehicle and sticking it on yours. This guy is using that as an example. I sure can't wait until I need to carry an engine in my pack.

Yes, that's great. But Dean said a lot of things 6 months ago. Not all of it will come to fruition.

For sure, but the guy was using what a develloper said as an example and you go and do some 'ad hominem' thing to the guy about what a great mechanic he must be instead of understanding he's talking about the inventory system handling vehicle systems.

Thankyou for explaining this. Not sure if its gonna help him understand though.

Help me understand what? I was making a sarcastic comment at how life or death you made car doors out to be.

In dayz as I pointed out exactly why car doors are life or death using a witty Doctor Who reference!

"Doors stop bullets! Doors are cool"

So in DayZ you could ride around no doors in your Jeep wind in your hair bullet in your teeth. Or you could lug that pesky door down to the beach affix it to your Jeep and live a bit longer.

Car doors. You're arguing over car doors.

If only this argument was in-game...

-Though I have a feeling Sabre05 would have a temper tantrum and shoot everyone because he started to lose the argument
