Preface: I'm a survivor, not a soldier. I use weapons as protection from zombies not to rob or kill others. I've been killed at least (or should I say 'only'?) a dozen times during as many brief PvP encounters. A lot of them were just one shot and I'm dead situations but a few of them I had a chance to fight back, or at least attempt to. Each time something different happened. I panic. I lag. I make a dumb mistake. And I always die. But I usually learn something and try to apply that going forward.
 
This is the story of my first PvP victory.
 
On this day I was in search of an MP5K magazine to feed my pristine weapon with the hundreds of rounds I'd been hoarding for a week or so. I had not long ago dropped a Sporter 22 because I was running out of ammo for it. An FNX .45 was my only protection for the time being. The sun was setting and there was just enough time for one quick run through the Zelenogorsk.
 
I saw the clues. Police station was sealed but there was nothing of value left inside. Police car down the road was looted but left closed. A gate was open along the back route to the military area, but again all doors were closed. Somebody was here but they were covering their tracks. I scanned the exterior of the military area. Looks clear. Clock's ticking. Now or never.
 
With my pistol out and ready I enter the admin building. It's clear. All doors closed. There's stuff here but again, looks to be picked over. Careful to close all doors behind me as I enter and exit, I scan the first barracks building. All doors closed. Looks clear. Enter and move to the back room. There's stuff here. But the good stuff is gone.
 
Approach the entrace of the other barracks and don't notice any activity. Before I open the door I see a yellow chain. "Crap, it's restart time." But after a second look I noticed it was actually desync. In the back of my mind I think this told me to be ready. I opened the barracks door and spotted a figure at the very back of the hallway. I mashed my fire button and strafed right to get some cover behind the first doorway. I hear shots. I hear a man scream in pain. My screen goes gray. I see the other guy fall forward. His clothes take damage. Click. Click. I try to fire again but my gun is jammed.
 
Panic. Run! Gotta get out of here. Shit, now there's a zombie behind me. Alerted from the gun shots I guess. Just run for the woods. This guy's armed and if I didn't kill him, he'll no doubt follow and seek revenge. Stupid zombie. "Click click click". Why is my pistol not working? Inventory's full. Drop a soda while running so I can make room for the mag and swap to another one. Still not working. Still running, trying to use cover where possible. My screen is dark. I'm hurting bad but I'm not bleeding and I can walk. That's a good thing.
 
Server restarts. I re-joined the same server and was happy to see I was still alive. Check my gear and sure enough, I was in rough shape.

In hindsight, it's possible this guy was waiting for me in ambush and I just got really lucky. It's odd that he was able to get shots off so quick. I remember hearing only .45 shots (no other gun sounds) as I was clicking my mouse but the first one or two could have been from him. It all happened so fast.
 
Funny thing is even though I was firing my pistol it still became ruined when my chest was hit. Bug filed! Unless you want to believe the weapon was hit directly by a bullet while in my hands.
 
Soooo...after about 10 losses in random PvP combat I finally eeked out a win. I think my gear and random dispersion saved my life.

Quite familiar with the sounds of all the weapons but like I said in the post I heard nothing but my shots. I'm guessing he had a .45 also. Didn't notice any long weapons but it was all a blur.
