Where are all the DAY/NIGHT cycle servers?!?

Recommended Posts

Don't even bother with him.  He's an exploiter without admitting it because somehow the cheat doesn't bother him

Excuse me? What the fuck dude? I don't change my settings simply because I'm a lazy shit and I don't feel like changing them back during the day-time.

It doesn't bother me because, for the last time, I don't give a fuck. I just don't care. Is it really that hard for you to understand? Most of the servers that I play on are very under-populated at night, so I don't even have to worry about people changing their settings. The night is already bright enough for me. I actually enjoy challenges in my game.

So I tell you that I'm done talking to you on the other thread and now you just move back over to this one and start accusing me of being a cheater. Nice, man. Nice.

Different service providers allow for different settings. I just signed up with Gameservers and did a bunch of testing.

Gameservers is currently enforcing a mandatory 2-hour restart, not 4 hours as mentioned. Used to be 4 but changed in the past month or two.

Time acceleration is possible and does work. I have it set at 6x which gives a nice 12-hour cycle during the forced 2-hour restart. In theory you could set this to 12x and have a 24-hour cycle instead or somewhere in between even.

There is an option that allows you to use "Current GMT" as the time that server starts at after a restart. However it doesn't seem to work. The server seems to pick a fixed time to start from instead, unless set to a specific time.

Put all that together and you get a lot of great options for day night cycles or even mimicking current time but things just aren't working quite yet.

Ooh, that's interesting! I just found a server that has a patchy 24 hour cycle and 4 hour restarts, maybe they are doing something like what you mentioned above. Thanks for the information!

Edit: I take that back. The server just changed to a, basically, 24/7 day server. Yay! Back to the drawing board.........once again.

I don't mean to bump my old topic simply to get people to read, but would it be a good idea to post the couple of servers that I have found that offer a day/night cycle and 4hr+ restarts? I have 3 or 4. The only thing keeping me from posting them is that I have seen people say not to post them on the forums because it might lead to an influx in hackers and trolls.

Or I could PM anyone interested. Again, I have a list of 3 or 4 hardcore, day/night, 4 hr restart, SA servers.

Thanks.

I share your views, I am thinking its impossible or difficult to have a server automatically restart on a schedule without it resetting the time to whatever chosen default the admin picked. I could be wrong on that. Perhaps a server that does 6 hour restarts with the clock starting at 19:00 or 20:00 is some sort of a halfway solution to the problem. There is a couple 24/7 Night servers, for my "Simulated Experience" I am shifting between one server and another to generate my own day/night, but it just isn't the same. Part of the problem might be the nighttime graphics are kinda fubar at the moment... Still... a server without:

Hackers
Abusive Admins
Perma Day or Perma Night
Poor connection stability (I'm gettin real tired of you jerks with pings in the 200's who think it's fun to join a server where everyone else's ping is below 90, FIND A SERVER CLOSER TO YOU)

The only actual "Legitimate Play" that bothers me at all is the noob killers, I'm not a noob, havent been for a while, but cmon, it cant be THAT entertaining to sit outside a spawn town with a scoped Mosin popping John Hancocks with no flippin gear wearing bright red t-shirts? Wheres your sense of challenge? I digress.

I share the OP's view on Day/night, it's literally half the game, we should get to play it like that.
