How to do a clean uninstall of DayZ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

yesterday we tried to remove and reinstall DayZ on a friends computer because he couldn't connect to any server (constantly getting "session lost" directly after connecting on every server).

So we even removed the two DayZ folders in "AppData" and "Documents".

After starting DayZ again every setting was reset except the server favourites and history. We even reinstalled Steam from scratch but still the same.

My question: are the server lists saved also online with your character or did we miss some other config folder?

The server history and favourites are a steam file.

serverbrowser_hist.vdf is the file name

There may be more than one but only one of the files is for DayZ.

The best way to find the correct one is to open the following location and then use the search option (win7) C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\

When you look in this folder you will see folders with numbers instead of names - these are related to each steam game you have installed.

You have several choices but the easiest is to log onto a DayZ server and add a new random server to your favourites then exit the game and search again as I mentioned above.

Choose the serverbrowser_hist.vdf with the date and time that you added this new random server to the fav's

Instead of deleting the file you can just rename it TEMP_serverbrowser_hist.vdf this will be as effective as deleting and if you have chosen the wrong file you can change the name back without worry.

Please ensure STEAM is closed down completely before renaming the file.

You can also EDIT this file with a program called notepad++ ( a handy little editor than can be used to edit other files as well ) > http://notepad-plus-plus.org/

Thank you very much!

In fact the problem was because of Steam Cloud Synchronization.

So now we made sure to uncheck this option for Dayz, then close Steam down and after that delete and reinstall everything.

Also now i know how to edit the Favourites and History to my need, e.g. deleting just the History very quickly and so on :)
