Character suddenly deleted

Hi folks

 

I did not buy arma over steam but because of the whole gamespy thing I did register it in steam now. So yesterday I played a bit and every thing worked (after the steam registration) but today I got "session lost" every time I tried to connect to a server via Dayz Commander. So I tried a few things (I reinstalled the game via Dayz Commander, I changed the Directory in Dayz Commander and so on and so forth) anyway the problem was solved and the game was running again. So I logged in and played for a few minutes until I noticed, that my settings had changed. I thought this is probbably due to the whole reinstallation stuff, luckily I had a copy of my .cfg files so I closed the game, deleted the .cfg files and replaced them with my saved ones. Then I wanted to change my Ingamename bc it was old and I didn't like it anymore, so I started Arma 2 OA changed my player profile and started dayz again.

 

As I connected to the server I was able (forced) to choose gender and a spawn location and I had a new character (obviously my equip was gone). Could anyone explain to me what happend?

You most likely joined a private hive. Most of the private hives are very customized and will give you a choice of gender, spawn location, etc. etc.

 

Try joining an official server, which you can see in DayZ Commander on the far left of servers.

sorry forgot to say that. I rejoined the same server (of which i know that it is public hive). I also tried 3 different servers and I had the same character at the same spot everywhere.

 

 

EDIT:

I reinstalled the game bc I got "Authentication timeout" all the time. After the reinstallation I had all my gear back. *confused* but *resolved*

I have the same issue, I was playing with a living hero character, suddenly after a relogin I respawned on the coast after a gender choice with default humanity value in public hive servers. The one thing I did before of relaunching ARMA 2 it was uninstalling "ARMA 2: OA Beta (Obsolete)" by the Steam Client and revalidating ARMA 2: OA files... So... If I reinstall everything I can get my hero back? :-( Can I use DayZ Commander or it is preferable let Steam to install everything?

Problem solved by using the option "Replace original Arma2OA files with Beta so Steam works" in DayZ commander.
