Wabid Wabit 34 Posted June 29, 2014 Before I get hated on, I have nerve damage in my right hand.... So I use a Windows XBX Controller and it worked fine with SA until about a week ago, now in settings the controller list is empty and it does not respond to commands, my character has not changed at all and been a live for 2 weeks, I can play Arma 2 DayZ fine and other Steam, Origin games fine, I have drivers and OS detects it fine when I test it in settings. Has anyone else experienced this and has updates removed it or something? Thank you.
Katana67 2907 Posted June 29, 2014 (edited) Yeah, with the latest patch, controller support was disabled/removed. Unsure if this is intentional, but it's annoying for the few of us who like to play with a controller (for preferential reasons). I think Xpadder may still work fine, so you might want to try that if it's really bothering you. Edited June 29, 2014 by Katana67
Wabid Wabit 34 Posted June 29, 2014 @ Katana = Thank you, it really does stink and I hope it was by accident, I really like the game and there is no way I can play on Keyboard and mouse, someone suggest Xpaddler which works with controllers disable on all games - I guess it is worth the 10,00 to try, in case anyone else is interested if SA never returns Controller function - http://steamcommunity.com/app/221100/discussions/0/648814842611263272/
UltimateGentleman 355 Posted June 29, 2014 How hard is the game to play with a controller? When it lets you anyway... I find keyboard and mouse just...really boring. A controller makes me feel involved, I can sit forward on my bed when things get intense and focus. Is it awkward or does it work fine? Anyway to be on topic I hope they've only temporarily removed it because I'd love to try it, don't see why they should remove it forever maybe they're tweaking it? Ultimate - I have no choice but it works fine for me, I haven't tried it it without a controller so I really don't know the difference, they say FPS is slower on controller and it doesn't react as fast but playing BF4 and COD I do just fine on reaction time, I can turn on peeps :) Thanks Edited June 29, 2014 by Wabid Wabit

Katana67 2907 Posted June 30, 2014 (edited) How hard is the game to play with a controller? When it lets you anyway... I find keyboard and mouse just...really boring. A controller makes me feel involved, I can sit forward on my bed when things get intense and focus. Is it awkward or does it work fine? It worked better in the mod. But it worked fine enough for me in the standalone. Just standard (without a mapping program like Xpadder) I'd say about 60% of the buttons on the controller are used, with 40% being unused. So anyone who says "controllers can't handle the complexity of DayZ's control scheme" is talking out of their ass. There's a lot of unused buttons on the controller by default. Couple that with modal functioning (i.e. press button and all the other buttons do a different function than before), holding button functions, and double-tapping functions, it can easily match the complexity of a keyboard in terms of overall actions that can be accomplished. More than enough to handle a game like DayZ. If I could map the lean function to one of the shoulders, and the freelook function to the other, I'd be 100%. The only issue in the standalone, is navigating the inventory, which was clearly designed for a mouse. Which is why I use a keyboard, mouse, AND controller... at the same time. Get on my level PC peasants. Edited June 30, 2014 by Katana67
UltimateGentleman 355 Posted June 30, 2014 Which is why I use a keyboard, mouse, AND controller... at the same time. Get on my level PC peasants. Is it awkward to set up? I know there will be tutorials not asking how just is it simple or something you can do in a few minutes and always know how? I'm more of a console gamer DayZ is the only PC game I play right now. It would be cool if we could use a PS4 controller for it the touchpad could have many functions, perhaps inventory checking though it would take some getting used too. That or the emotes, swipe two fingers up for holding your hands up, tap then drag a finger up for middle finger. Hopefully they utilize that one day...most importantly the responsiveness.Too many times have I been hurt or killed by people/zombies because I pressed 1 to take an axe or gun out and it only started happening 10 seconds later... Katana67 2907 Posted June 30, 2014 Is it awkward to set up? I mean, I haven't set up anything. I just plugged in my controller to my PC, downloaded the drivers, and played the game. I don't use Xpadder, so I can't comment on how hard it'd be to use that. I just use the default (and limited) controls that DayZ/ARMA uses. ARMA II doesn't allow you to remap controller functions very easily, if at all, so you're pretty much just stuck with the default stuff.

agentneo 337 Posted July 2, 2014 Xpadder is free you dont pay for it. Just set WSAD to your joystick and mouse to right stick. takes some configuring but works a treat. I use g13 To control and that also stopped. Had to set it all to WSAD. Anyway, i have added this problem to feedback tracker. http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=12762 Lots of people enjoy to play more comfortably, especially in mod, controllers and flight sticks are often used for vehicle control. Here is the link please comment or bump it that you have the same issue i think that helps> I am not sure how the tracker works. It says assigned to Accolyte, hopefully he is a developer coding the controls. If someone more qualified can advise us. But i can see here that some kind of moderator is adding other peoples duplicates back to it. Hopefully they have seen this problem and are working it. It seems like such a small thing to fix, it worked pre 0.45 update, so something changed needs to be put back, as far as controller input concerned.
