skully172 33 Posted June 29, 2014 i just think that needs a new animation. The original animation is just the guy holding whatever hes got on his hands like hes really to punch, i think it should be changed to something like this:
Sutinen 635 Posted June 29, 2014 (edited) It's also weird how the character holds them in menu. The game doesn't have any other melee weapon animations so I guess it just wants to use the 2-handed one. Edited June 29, 2014 by Sutinen
Mark Darkers 151 Posted June 29, 2014 It probably will do in time, animation is a very time consuming thing, at some point it all will be ready :)

Try it for yourself, it really is that easy: http://www.qavimator.org/

TiggyPooh 134 Posted June 30, 2014 that is a bold statement :) A static animation for holding a knife, yeah 5 min. max. and I am an amateur and only make a few animations that I need for the aircraft and boats I create. Here's just a few of the aircraft I make: http://www.spijkersandwingtips.com/video My artist name is Tig Spijkers and my company is Spijkers & Wingtips.I do the scripting, sounds and animation and then some texturing and 3D modeling if needed. VictorKane 638 Posted June 30, 2014 To create a static pose 5 minutes is more than enough. Problem with a new animation in DayZ is it's not just one static pose... To bring new way of holding a machete means creating bunch of new related animations. It is not it would take us a month or so... we could make that in few days. Unfortunately we are working on other things which have higher priority for the game right now. Once we have all basics in game, we will look in this kind of stuff, to make animations more diverse.

And if you want any decent animation with a good loop + taken into account that it has to fit the animation system and link up with other animations + do proper blending wich goes per vertex and has to be painted (that is how vertexes are assigned to bones) and has to be weighted (part of the vertex painting) it does take a considerable amount of time actually, no one wants a rough and dirty animation, that is only for prototyping. It is not really that easy.

TiggyPooh 134 Posted June 30, 2014 Thank you for the beans Viktor. Let me just explain really quick, before anyone here gets the wrong impression.I meant a simple static animation of holding a knife in one hand, scripted to run in a loop. What we see in the game is much more complicated and it would take a lot of time and knowledge of animations and scripting to explain in detail. The animation we see in DayZ are extremely detailed and take a lot of time to create.Bohemia uses it's own Motion Caption Studio to create these fantastic animations that so seamlessly flow. From my perspective they are some of the best I have seen in any game so far.Just take the recent introduced drinking animation, just amazing detail and flawless from begin to end.We see so many games with all their various character movements, but so little is known about creating animations and how much those can effect the immersion of a game.DayZ is one if not the best I have seen at the top end of what is technically possible. Thank you Viktor and please keep up the fantastic work!
