Smith&Wesson 3 Posted June 28, 2014 (edited) First, i want to say: “Thank You, Rocket!”Second, I’m pretty new to DayZ; I’ve started pretty much with latest release of alpha_0.45. But my heart and brain was on fire from the very first moment when I saw a gameplay-vid on the net. I’m very exited and enthusiastic about DayZ, the way it is now, and also about what (i guess) we all hope it will be in future. That’s why I joined community and want to take part in giving ideas and bugreports… Situation: Lately i was crafting a campfire to grill some meat. Out of curiosity I also threw in a can of beans, a spare box of ammo and a screwdriver. By the time the meat was already burned, I had to stop the experiment due to lack of time, but with a pocket full of info… So, here are the Facts about my Little Experiment:# meat, even though burned like charcoal, still labeld ‘pristine’ and eatable# can of beans heated, still labeld ‘pristine’ (after considerable time)# ammo, no change whatsoever# screwdriver, no change whatsoever ...and here come the ideas:# every thing thrown into fire should heat up (i guess it's coincidence that the Cans are heating up because they are implemented on Nutrition-table just like the meat!?)# every thing thrown into fire should change state of damage from pristine –> etc –> ruined –> and last: annihilation# ammo in fire should be annihilated by going off/explosion (bang, bang, bang each round, depending on how many u throw in; ->reality) witch also could be used as a trap for attracted nearby Players or Zombies# (if it isn’t already implemented, I dunno,) campfire should have expiration-time for burning, depending on how many wood u throw in. i.e. 1 log burns for 30min including taking damage(see above), therefore a fire with 3 logs will burn for 1,5h…etc# when sitting, actions like eating, drinking, pulling/switching weapon etc force the player to stand up what is really disturbing when chilling around the campfire. All that, especially drinking and eating should be doable in seated position too# when u concider to implement temperature, don’t forget to make campfire hurt the Player/Zombies if walking over it (also being too close for too long)(// I just imagine a flaming angry Infected/Zombie dying while trying to put out a fire in vain… :-) ) Also I noticed some “pseudo-bugs” concerning the Fireplace:(so far I don’t concider the folling as BugReport-worthy – that’s why I say ‘pseudo’. What do u think? yes or no? I don’t know – plz tell me if I should post one) # when fireplace is set up in area with high grass, it doesn’t affect the vicinity with the consequence that a bunch of fresh green grass is popping right out of the flames and burning logs… (it’s just looking funny, but u can avoid by going prone before setup and pushing the grass to ground)# the heated Cans immediately turns to cool again upon opening in inventory So long, survivors, greetings to all, S&W Edited June 28, 2014 by Smith&Wesson
troodogolik 1 Posted June 28, 2014 Wanted to create a theme "аммо in the fire" (because did just that), but found through the search this post. I fully support the author. My idea of how it can help, if it will work:Bonfire + unneeded ammunition = a great diversion. Light a fire on one side of the city (hidden), throw ammo (.22 for example), walk around the town/village, ammo this time warmed up and began to "shoot", and you enter from the other side without attention, because all peer another direction. If players find so much ammo in zombie apocalypse survival game that they have nothing better to do with it then troll people like that, then you know that something is wrong with the game and it is not really a survival zombie apocalypse game. Smith&Wesson 3 Posted June 28, 2014 (edited) Thanx for the comments, so far. If players find so much ammo in zombie apocalypse survival game that they have nothing better to do with it then troll people like that, then you know that something is wrong with the game and it is not really a survival zombie apocalypse game. It's not about trolling people, it's about reality...Different weapons use diffrent type of ammo. Let the amount of ammunition available in the world be whatever it is/will be, if you have spare ammo of a type you don't have the according weapon for, why not use it in a different way...When it comes to Survival, imho, the distraction or attraction (trap) of Infected and other Players is one of the key Features. Everything you do (walk about, fire your weapon, flashlight, campfire, etc) may attract others onto you; for distraction, there is so far only the roadflare... greetings,S&W Edited June 28, 2014 by Smith&Wesson

I' sorry Frosti, but i strongly disagree! That sounds like your backpack is a moving ammostore... There is a reason why we have a limited capacity for items and the Player is not able to carry unlimited stuff around; and that reason (besides physical strength and realism) is to force him to make a decision with every encountered item whether to take it or leave it. and in this game every decision counts and may be the way to life or death... what you are basically saying, Frosti, is that every item should be enambled only ONE way of use. (...otherwise that seemed to be a lame game not worth playing...)So i guess, you are using your axe only to chop wood because it is too precious to get worn by opening cans or killing infected with it? Sure Thing! Because for cans we have the canopener, and for Infected we have many firearms with hundreds of rounds in our backpack... (no offence!...) what i am saying is, that here is a nice and realistic.based opportunity to give an item a second different way to use it. Think about it...which way to go is up for the player to decide and ever will be in an openworld game...
