Alexey Zemanov 6 Posted June 28, 2012 is there anyway to have atleast 2 chars? When you use the search function you will find threads where people tell they use a second steam account for which they bought the game a second time.

Xelacalle 0 Posted June 28, 2012 As far as I can tell, the only way you can do this is by buying another copy of the game. Making a new profile doesn't change anything as your information seems to be connected to your "CD" key rather than the name of your profile.
JeffCraig 1 Posted June 28, 2012 Like the others have said, you need a second Steam account. Here is the easiest way:1. Log into the second Steam account.2. Go to your Steam Games Library.3. Right-click Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead in the menu on the left.4. Select 'Reinstall BattlEye Anti-Cheat' from the drop-down menu. That will update the required profile info/registry keys/whatever, and when you log into the game again, you'll be on the second character. When you want to go back to the first character, just log into the first Steam account and do the re-install of BattlEye again.

Xelacalle 0 Posted June 28, 2012 Is it just me' date=' or does this sound like it's something you aren't supposed to do...[/quote']They're buying a second copy of the game so I'm not sure what could be done about it, but yes I would say it definitely isn't something you're supposed to do...I guess you could exploit it by having one character who you just use as a bank for medicine and food, or something. Canadiantx69 0 Posted June 28, 2012 They're not buying a second copy of the game, they're just changing the registry key that controls your profile to use a different account and thus a different character.Wish there were a way to have a diff char for a diff ARMA profile though, I mostly play with a few friends and run in a group, however there are times when one isn't available and we don't want to leave them in a random tree in BFE, so we either can't stray far or we can't play. cyanyde 165 Posted June 28, 2012 I too would like to be able to use a second character, but I can see how it wouldn't work, as too many people would abuse it.My reason for wanting it is simply for when I don't want to play with the stress of using my main, but I want to head down the coast line helping newbs or something. There is no way I would do that with a 2-3+ day character though.. it's basically committing suicide, if you're wearing a Ghillie suit or a top-tier backpack. :(I guess it's technically what tents are for, but I still don't trust them enough to leave my primary gear in one.. *maybe* a second kit at the most, more likely a bit of surplus that I wouldn't miss if it was taken. (or lost to a bug/server reset)
mansen 1 Posted June 28, 2012 I'm amazed how stupid people can be in this thread - ARMA is not a steamworks game. Changing your Steam account will yield you nothing - nothing whatsoever. You need a second cdkey/copy of the game. :dodgy:
Cooto3s (DayZ) 0 Posted June 29, 2012 No, you do not need to use steam to run the game, but if you are, you would have to install it on another harddrive on the PC.Then purchase another copy of arma on your family members steam account, and install it to that harddrive. I wanted my brother to try this game before he got his PC, we tried simply making a new steam account for him, but we ended up with a bunch of problems. Characters were switching constatly between his and mine and you had to update the mod/verify integrity of game cache constantly, or you would be greeted with an error saying " Bad CD-key given during setup" and you'd have to reinstall the game.If you can find a way to manually delete and re-apply the new CD key, then that might work too. Me, I have no idea. My brother is happily playing on his own PC now, so I havent bothered.DayZ support themselves told me this, so it is not against the rules having 2 characters on one PC. I dont know how it is for 1 player to have 2 characters though. I think it's just if you got a family member/friend without they're own PC.
jivix 2 Posted June 30, 2012 +1 to having a new DayZ character per Arma II profile.Pros: -Less stressful, can build up extra characters to fall back on.-More freedom when not traveling with friends. (playing alone)-You have to do all the work, building up more characters. Adds a bit of challenge that way.-Allows for friends and family to try the game without wrecking all of your hard work.Cons:-Long, multi-player firefights could be drawn out if people keep respawning with their other fully-kit characters. Not a big problem IMO because it's likely they are not even close.-People could use "mules" to carry all of their extra items. Keep in mind that characters can't carry all that much to begin with, so it would be much less of an issue than it was in diablo II.Overwhelming need for multiple character profiles! waylander (DayZ) 0 Posted June 30, 2012 +1 for having multiple profiles and as much as i like this game im not going to buy 2 copies of it so i can have 2 charaters. There could be a way round the mules and respawning such as not being able to spawn in the same server for 1 hour later etc
