Take backpack into hands

I didn't find another thread with this, so...

 

If you can sling a rifle and carry another, you should be able to wear a backpack and carry another. 

 

Looting a player should be faster, just grab the backpack and run. In a firefight, you can drop the second pack and come back to it.

Yes on carrying a backpack but,

 

It should take at least 10 seconds to take off backpack from dead player body while standing still

 

and

 

Can't sprint with backpack in hands

 

and

 

Can't run at all while carrying two backpacks (one in hands and one on back).

With these limitations I think it would be fine.

Is this because you think it's more realistic or for gameplay purposes?  I can take a backpack off a dead person in less than one second in most cases (grab tab at top of pack, pull slightly up, slides right off - get a friend to lie 'dead' wearing a backpack and try it out.)

 

As for running with the backpack -- I think this is yet another case where a fatigue/stamina/weight system is required.

Gameplay.

 

Camping dead body and waiting for sniper/dead body owner friends to show up (or not) was one of the best expirences I had in DayZ mod.

 

If some #YOLO guy can just yoink the loot from dead body that gameplay expirence will be gone.

In a real life situation, would you sit exposed while pawing through the persons backpack, or would you grab it and find a safer area to do it? It should be as fast as picking up any item, but I like the added weight/fatigue idea.

another example of needing a weight system, but yeah, i do like the idea (yesterday, i got into a fire fight at the Balota military camp, killed both guys, then started looting their bodies. had this feature been in, i would not of been killed by a bambi with a chambered FNX

what i will see is - when you grab items from your backpack then you need deposed backpack

Not really, it just requires you to be a good sniper.  Do you really need 10 seconds to hit a stationary target at a predetermined range?

This is to keep the game in theme of a survival. This is why when we eat or drink form cans we have  animation, when we drink from water pump we have animation, when we skin and quarter animals we have animation and not isntant action, when we climb ladders there is ladder grabbing animation etc.

 

Player yoinking backpack in ~2 seconds from dead body of  another player belongs to games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare etc, and not survival game like DayZ.

 

That's why I think that grabbing backpack from dead player should have long grabbing animation similar to quartering and skinning animal.

Agreed and Agreed. This idea makes sense, is immersive and yes it should take time to grab a back pack into hands and should also effect speed, I feel though you should still be able to run but at a jogging pace and slightly reduced then normal jog speed.

I completely agree that an animation would make this more immersive, but that's not the argument... you're saying it takes 10 seconds to take a backpack off a person (who isn't trying to fight you)... it doesn't.  I can open an inventory and get any items I want in under 10 seconds, so what would be the point of taking the whole backpack?  The action of grabbing the backpack and running should be pretty fast --  2 seconds is _plenty_ of time.

 

The other animations you listed make sense - eating takes time.  Most people can't just dump a  whole can of food into their mouth and swallow.  Drinking has the same issue.  Skinning and quartering an animal takes a while (much longer than the game animates, actually).

 

There's only one situation I can think of when it would take 10 seconds to remove a backpack and that's if the wearer had a waist belt and a chest belt on that pack as well as the shoulder straps.  Perhaps a compromise would be to change the time based on the type of backpack.  A normal, 2 strap backpack comes off instantly in most cases.  With a sharp knife, any backpack comes off in less than 5 seconds.
