Jesterarts 85 Posted June 30, 2014 Server hopping was never intended to be a part of DayZ. There are even various countermeasures planned to put an end to it. Essentially, it's as much a glitch as peeking through walls. From the very beginning it was unintended. You can server hop, just like you can glitch infinite ammo. Both are classified as cheating, though one more than the other.Lol. Actually there have been exactly zero countermeasures planned to stop it.There are a few to stop ghosting. Jesterarts 85 Posted June 30, 2014 Just jumped on for a few minutes and did some looting at the SWAF. Server reset occured while I was playing so logged back in and found some goodies.I saw one guy looking the barracks at the far west of the Airfield. The only reason I noticed him is a couple zombies where charging his way. Couldn't tell if he was armed or not so I left him and the zombies to sort themselves out. Good chicken to go say hello and help since I JUST found a mosin.Next stop, military base in the West where I died last time.So must be some players in the West. Like respawning loot wtf, I've just looted barracks, I come back 15 minutes later and there is brand new AKM under the bed that wasynt there. Another 15 minutes later there is something new again. Nah. I rather take hiperdimension jump into another server with some central hive controlled loot distribution. PS. Only if they could force servers to be up for full 4 hours instead of those restarts every 40 minutes.I prefer respawning loot and a game where each individual server can have a chance of spawning everything.However it was very crappy in the mod waiting an area or driving 200m then coming back. They need to make it something like 20minutes wait and no players in that area perhaps. As for restarts, yeah they need to start been stricter with servers for instance have a set number of official servers partly funded by the sales of the game...i feel having no official servers is detrimental as many server admins kick people out, restart it too regulary, or abuse their power..We should always be able to join an official, vanilla, not f**cked with server in my opinion., and B.I. should provide one slot for every copy sold..servers average 1 euro a month per player so 20 euros for the game = 20 months play time by those calculations.. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

To be honest the whole system is a bit dodgy in my opinion, i am kind of looking forward to when private hives allow people to be locked to one server, then they won't act like pricks all the time, and they will have to stay to one server. that has other problems of course but just discussing the whole hive thing kind of makes me not like it at all. I think you and your side of the argument fail to realize that "server hopping is/isn't cheating" is a topic of DEBATE and not an accepted conclusion. I am not a server hopper, but I don't think its cheating and I personally could give two shites if you or someone else do it. Any reasons that have been stated as to why it should be considered cheating are complete and total BS. It doesn't matter, it doesn't affect you. You aren't a mentalist or clairvoyant. Even if it was cheating you have no idea of knowing who is a hopper or who isn't. When players go off and say, "I can tell he was server hopping because he had on a blue backpack and didn't crouchwalk slowly from building to building and he spoke with a lisp..." is just total complete garbage. And as far as I am concerned, personally, everyone's favorite reply to anyone who complains about something with this game applies here as well, "It's in Alpha." The developers and production team will have to make some decisions eventually on what they consider cheating and what they don't. What is actually affecting overall gameplay and what is just internet babies being babies. They will have to come up with plans in order to stop and/or deter them. Maybe there will be PvE only servers for those who are sick of getting KoS'd everytime they try to grab a weapon at an airfield or step off the beach. Maybe there will be PvP servers where players will do nothing but kill each other all day. Who knows? Not you and certainly not me. There is nothing set in stone.
