QN regarding custom server-side scripts [Hack Detection]

Recommended Posts

I assume that custom scripts placed onto the server by the host are not allowed. However, i would like that verified.

Anyway, we had an idea to create a script that could listen and record certain functions into an external log, such as "addWeapon" and "addmagazine _x" etc. to catch hackers and then manually ban them after checking the log.

Would this be allowed (if its possible anyway)? Its just writing an additional log, not actually changing anything about the game experience.

it seems like it should also be possible to log when players acquire extremely rare items (NVG, GPS, L85, AS50, etc)

this would make it extremely obvious who is exploiting when the same player acquires 18 pairs of NVGs in the same day

i also wonder why items themselves are not assigned some kind of identifier when acquired by a player. if this was done, then duped items could have identical GUIDs and be recognized as duplicates.

but maybe the overhead incurred from these methods is too much for these already-strained servers to handle, idk

I'm all for better ways of logging player activity, the logs that battle eye keeps are obscure at best...

I've done heavy research on this and my findings are still inconclusive. As administrator/owner of my server, I feel like the administrative tools/rights are quite underwhelming.

For instance, I was asked by a user to transport him because he wondered extremely far off the map. He was new and didn't realize what he had done. Being able to move him somewhere else would have been nice. I understand that these sort of abilities could be exploited by an admin, but that's the risk one must take. Plus if you have an admin exploiting constantly then users will simply quit visiting that server and that admin will be exploiting all by himself.

Well, those are my thoughts.
