Karmaterror 982 Posted June 4, 2014 Simple little idea... Raw and cooked meat both go bad over time if kept in your inv. Same could go for fresh fruits and stuff. Add some jiffy bags that we can place the meat in to double its going bad time. I think this could be a little addition that adds to the authenticity and survival aspects of the game :)
Damnyourdeadman 1045 Posted June 4, 2014 I would actually love to have this :DIt would make sense actually,i can't shake the thought that we gut the meat and "just" drop it in ourbackpack along with the other equipment. This is going to fix that.
irishroy 1347 Posted June 4, 2014 (edited) has been already suggested with pictures, etc.Freezer-box with 15 slots and ice-packs, which take up 2 vertical slots to keep the things inside (raw meat, blood, etc. cool and fresh) Coolpacks could be found in refrigerators. Would be AWESOME, if it would come. Edited June 4, 2014 by irishroy

I only meant the little see through bags, but now I want a proper camping freezer box, that takes up maybe half my backpack but holds steaks drinks ect. Man imagine a cold drink bringing your temp down from exhaustion on a hot day, or making you colder at night. Hot and cold food types and how they effect temperature (along with how exhaustion effects temp) should really go in the game.....maybe that should be a diff thread though lol :)
tobias winfro 305 Posted June 4, 2014 (edited) I like the idea, I do hope they bring item degradation into Dayz. Not only guns or melee weapons but food stuffs and blood/saline bags as well. I'm sure it would have to be after bases/persistent storage are implemented. It would add a bit of realism, drinking warm soda/water would be fine but blood and raw meat would go bad if it gets too warm giving more chance for sickness or infection. They could start adding freezers or refrigerator units into houses, stores and hospitals but then we run into the issue of where are we getting power for these things Edited June 4, 2014 by Tobias Winfro
irishroy 1347 Posted June 4, 2014 (edited) but blood and raw meat would go bad if it gets too warm giving more chance for sickness or infection. I think, these items could become warm. But after a certain time being warm (say 15-30minutes), they start to become bad.So people have time to pick up items from a dead body and transport them to a save location. "where are we getting power for these things" As "unreal" as it sounds, cold/frozen things could be found in refrigerators, I believe.Yes, a refri. doesn't keep things cool/frozen for 3 years without energy, but in DayZ we can make an exception, I hope ;)(There are still fresh fruits to be found, the Gas will be still pristine, even though it has been for more than 2 years in a rusty container, etc.) Edited June 4, 2014 by irishroy

I mean if the ingame temps are gonna hit above 90 Fahrenheit sure blood and meat will spoil faster but in the winter it would keep a bit longer. There are other ways of keeping things cool, back in the day, before modern refrigeration they used blocks of ice and sawdust and ways to cure meat such as salting it so there is more than 1 option. Unfortunately I don't think we'll see seasons in DayZ. IIRC Rocket said that snow would require the map to be built from scratch.

IIRC Rocket said that snow would require the map to be built from scratch.Fair enough, I could do without winter in game....it snows way too much here in Michigan, not sure I could handle having winter in game. Hell if you had an airtight container you could drop your meat and blood into a river to keep it cool

I know the trick with ice and saw-dust (pykrete, right? :D ). Maybe you could combine ice+sawdust to make pykrete. Then Pykrete would be a slightly worse cool-pack than an ice-pack.Ice could be found in refrigs, and saw-dust could be made with knife+stick/firewood/kindling
