Raw Potato (Houda’s Anecdotes #1)

LOST MY JOURNAL. DATE UNKNOWN. DAY 1

I'd been on the run for days now. Everything had happened so quickly. One moment I was reading the three musketeers the next a horde had descended onto the house.
I’d scrambled to put everything back into my bag, I heard them slamming into the door. The door hadn't lasted long, I heard a creak before the door shattered sending bits of wood flying everywhere. I jumped into the window covering my face from the glass, my bag snagged on the sharp edges knocking the air out of me. I shrugged it off and tugged at the bag, the glass tore into it spilled everything onto the ground, I lent down to grab my journal as Zombies burst into the room. They were like vultures descending onto a carcass. A zombie lunged at me, my hand smashed into the frame as I jerked my hand back. Blood gushed from the wound further arousing the zombies. I’d been lucky it hadn’t severed anything major, I managed to bandage it with my shirt when I’d gotten out of there. I decided to run as that was all there was to do, I couldn’t fight there was just too many of them and my bag wasn’t worth the risk. I’d ran as hard and as fast as I could into the tree line, the Zombies eventually gave up the chase as the distance between us had widened, during the blur I hadn't taken note of the direction I’d ran in and my compass was still in my backpack.

Now I'm lost. I've lost track of how many days have passed since then, probably 3 maybe 4. My energies deteriorated a lot since yesterday. The raw potato had helped, it was utter bliss when I’d found it. I'm not sure how much longer I can keep going like this, if I run into another horde I doubt I’ll make it out. What I’d do for some Nando’s chips right now
That’s one thing I’ve missed about Australia. I came here on exchange, there’s a few of u was a few of us who had flown in. We were supposed to be studying the vegetation in the Red Forests, Chernobyl’s radiation had destroyed most of it, what remained had been deemed safe enough for us to study it. Our sponsors were hoping the radionuclides in the forest could be used to create energy. What we found instead was vegetation that was radically mutated. Our professor discovered some sort of pollen had mutated from its original form, creating a virus like drug. We couldn’t have stopped it. The pollen had a long incubation period which had let it spread throughout the world, when it struck everyone was already infected. We were in the airport when it became a serious issue, we were switching planes for a connection flight when the entire airport had gone into lockdown. I thought there may have been a hijacking of some sorts but it became apparent when news broadcasts in the airport were advising a virus had struck worldwide… it was a pandemic.

Back to my current predicament, I’m starving, shirtless, the soles of my shoes could give at any moment and there isn’t a bloody town in sight. I never thought I would get sick of seeing trees.

To be continued…

I've already got part 2 in mind and will start on it whenever I strike my creative bone again, for the mean time let me know what you think. (The science behind some of the stuff is half true, I didn't research too deeply).
