codestargod 102 Posted May 27, 2014 (edited) Here is an idea! In the outback environment, the ability for people to craft their own ammunition is a vital skill!. All the more so if you were unfortunate enough to be living through a zombie apocalypse. Players, if lucky enough to come across an outback gunsmithing depot, could acquire some casings, gun powder, bullets, primers and possibly a hand-loading kit similar to this one below and maybe a hand-loader manual. In this way, they could begin fashioning their own ammo in small quantities. Naturally, hand-loaded ammo might not be as accurate, and may be prone to jamming the weapon, not firing at all, or damaging the weapon, so it would take some skill to improve your success. You'd also need to mount the kit securely on a sturdy bench, so it would require that you succeeded in setting up a temporary base of operations. The hand loader would also need to find the right manual as well as equipment for the cartridge that he/she wishes to craft. As for shells, they could possibly reuse the spent casings that were undamaged after firing. Imagine coming across an old scribbled note about this hermit Old man Porter, who once owned a gunsmithing shack deep in the forest/mountains, with some useful equipment you could use. Then you'd be on your way searching the whole of Cherneruse trying to find this depot. Loot spawn would be generated at random locations tied to the note, ofcourse. Comments? Beans? emigrates 261 Posted May 27, 2014 It's a good idea no doubt, however it sounds like an awful lot of work. Unless they change the actual spawn rate of ammo then I personally believe people will get sick of it and just go to the nearest police station or airfield. crimsonbzd 247 Posted May 27, 2014 Loot spawning and the adjustment thereof seems to be their current active project (along with map additions) in exp.I think this is would be something good for down the road if they make bullets really rare. However, bullets would have to be RARE rare rare rare for people to go through the trouble.

If I had all the equipment and a base, before I decide to leave, I'd make sure that I spooled up about three or four clips of ammo before setting off, this way I am not insecure about running out of it.I wouldn't mind doing this at all if it meant that I stand less chance of running out of it. What would also add to the suspense is if we had the guarantee of well modeled zombies and roaming zombie herds that truly gave us our money's worth of challenge. I don't think that ammo would need to be RARE in this case. You'd just have to be using it more than you are now in order to stay alive. It would also invite the possibility of players trading with each other. Edited May 27, 2014 by codestargod

If I want something someone else has got, I tend to kill them for it.
codestargod 102 Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) It would be brilliant, if the DayZ infrastructure allows it, to set up a persistent base/store, where players could buy and sell goods. Having an armory where a skilled gunsmith could craft different types of rounds would be brilliant. With sufficient skill, a gunsmith could fashion super-charged rounds for that extra kick and/or range for a price. Is anything like this planned for?
