The Mosin Problem

Recommended Posts

Also not having 5,45x39 AK74 seems simply wrong.

How could adding of this particular caliber harm the game?

Is it so much of work? Would that "bloat" loot table too much?

I believe the answer is no in both cases.

Also different caliber should be good for different behaviour of guns using it, which is in turn good for variety.

I sincerely hope devs will change their stance, introduce more calibers, fix shooting mechanics and start putting a bit more emphasis on realism than they are showing at the moment.

You are ofcourse free to not agree with me or not give a damn about realism, I am fully aware of that.

I do wish they'd add 5.45x39, as it'd serve to differentiate the assault rifles... so that one type of ammo (5.56x45 NATO) could be made rarer and the other (5.45x39) could be made more common.

But, the same thing could be done with 7.62x39 as well (which is already in the game). And there are workarounds (i.e. the AK-101) although that still may not be satisfactory to some. I'd rather have the AK-74 fire 5.45x39, but I understand why it's not prudent at this time.

And yes, I also agree that balancing things (vice only realism) will demand that they introduce more calibers further on down the line. If everything from a bolt-action hunting rifle, to a break-action pistol, to a magazine-fed battle rifle, to a high-end sniper rifle, to a GPMG is using 7.62x51 and 7.62x51 only (or just one type of ammo) then these weapons will more or less require the same amount of effort to rearm... no matter their rarity/commonality.

This is why I think they need to include a new optic, just a "Hunting Scope."

Fixed magnification, but more than the PU. Non mil-dot reticle (for aesthetic reasons). Deer Stand spawn.

Able to be used on the B95 and whatever hunting rifles they plan on implementing.

Done deal.

the funny thing is:

Since the last stable-patch, there is an optic in the gamefiles called "optic_hunting_scope_12x".

But no answer from official side xD

Another QQ thread from the realism police. Its a game at the of the day, some shortcuts are ok to be taken, mounting certain scopes on the fly on some weapons is ok.

No, it's not "Okay".  It removes a whole layer of gameplay. Having to find the right optic to be mounted on the right gun, all this stream lining does is remove the aspect of having to actually scavenge for what you're looking for.

Best plan: Mosin uses PU Scope, Blaze and Winchester 1895 use the LRS & Hunting Scope

Yup.

And if the PU-scope would use the real magnification, it would also be more suited for longer ranges.

The pu scope is plenty of scope at 3.5 x magnification for hitting a person at even 1000m + if you have good eyes.

The only debilitating factor with the pu scope in real life is the mosin itself not the best long range rifle.

Why can't the B95 use it?

Oh damn, if I could put a scope, even a PU scope on the Blaze 95, I'd totally use that in Dayz.

Sorry for the interruption, continue!
