alienpope 7 Posted May 20, 2014 Should I wait with opening a can of food until I need to eat it? Does it go bad in any way over time? Like it could go from pristine to worn etc. Sometimes it feels like that is the case. I've had food that was pristine at first and then become "ruined". Maybe my food got damaged in other ways I don't know of though.
Raoul9753 166 Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) Good question...I can only talk for myself and I never say any can food rotI found open cans still perfectly eatable... But seriously, unless you are stuffed, there is no reason not to instantly eat everything you find... I also dont get why I cant eat from a ruined can either, ok, the food in it will not hold for much longer, but a can that was damaged the same day is still perfectly eatable... If your can went from pristine to worn, this could be the result of taking damage from outside sources while you have the item in your inventory, i.e. zombie hit. You can also damage the cans by opening them with items other than a can opener i.e. axe.

Now I'll just go ahead and open all my food then  And yeah, i knew about spilling food when not using a can opener to open them :)
Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted May 20, 2014 And yeah, i knew about spilling food when not using a can opener to open them :) Nice, be aware if you have a damaged can and open it with other sources it causes additional damage which may ruin the item. Have fun opening cans ;)

MagneticToast 102 Posted May 21, 2014 Oh... so if I open a badly damaged can of beans it could damage my can opener? Nah he means if the can is damaged and you open it with something other than a can opener it may ruin the can...which makes no sense though because its just a can of food. Oh gnoes can is ruined, I can't eat the food out of it now some how.

It's ability to be edible years after it's natural ripening cycle should not be questioned...woe to those who question the can!
RedGuard 40 Posted May 21, 2014 Do you guys actually collect cans of food ?I never do since they are more or less all over the place. Whenever I find one, I eat it all immediately, done with it. I do however alway keep a bag of rice & water to fix me up rapidly. Does anyone know if cans will become sparse once hunting is implemented ? Red
