grrinc 7 Posted June 27, 2012 Hi guys - a noob here. I'm still really trying to love this game, but it makes me so freakin' mad!!Anyway, after a dozen or so attempts, I have taken to just start running everywhere. The sneaking around at the beginning is not worth it, the game is so random that I feel sneaking around is delaying the inevitable, death seems to come out of events that are beyond ones control. The last few games I just ran and ran from the beginning. I out ran zombies and I out ran bandits. Then I finally found some booty and was able to turn round and fight. Hours were saved. So that's my advice - run like you have never ran before. Also, I was led to believe that flies buzzing around indicate a dead body and possible loot. Well I hear the flies all the time, but I never see anything. Bug?
Shomet 0 Posted June 27, 2012 Possible bug that people have died there and their bodies have despawned, but the sound hasn't stopped, possible server bug or glitch of the mod in a server or maybe a glitch in the mod its-self
s0ulassassin 11 Posted June 28, 2012 Also be aware if you hear flies but no body it can mean two things. 1. someone did die near by and the killer hide their corpse 2. there is a pile of bodies near by (mass grave) Only seen a few of those mass graves but they are around. Dreamseller 0 Posted June 28, 2012 Once you get used to the game, you'll find that sneaking right from the start is actually better than just blindly running though Cherno. After dying, I respawned at Cherno, snuck into the Supermaket, Church and then a house. After which I had a new backpack, a shotgun and revolver with 5 clips each and 2-3 drinks/food.All this without alerting any zombies/players and only a few minutes game time. (I was shot at by a sniper right as I spawned, although he missed with ~10 shots. Sniper rounds whizzing past your head makes a really cool noise though.) grrinc 7 Posted June 28, 2012 I have played over 5 hours of this game and have yet to find one gun or anything useful whilst sneaking around. I run into a zombie or other player and killed. I find crawling through fields and villages for hours way to boring now even though it seemed exciting at first. It would help if we were equipped with the ability to at least deal with one persistent zombie from the beginning. A stick that breaks or the ability to time a shove?Running is the way I get a quick result, but it's a shame because it ruins the spirit of the game.
[email protected] 0 Posted June 28, 2012 You can find crowbars or hatchets almost everywhere now, they're more common than empty tin cans and you can easily hold of multiple zombies if you defend from inside a building. Unless you plan on playing in a group you're going to be crawling and sneaking alot, gun or no gun, so get used to it. Most of the coastal towns are picked clean though so i suggest heading at least a couple of Km inland if you want to find a gun with less risk.
Alexey Zemanov 6 Posted June 28, 2012 I have played over 5 hours of this game and have yet to find one gun or anything useful whilst sneaking around. Then you are doing it wrong.1. Know where to get the loot you want: www.dayzmap.info2. Run to the place where you want to loot3. Crouch/prone when you don't want to alarm anyone (near Zs, near players, near houses)Generally you shuld go for supermarkets, churches, fire stations, deer stands, hangars and military tents ... maybe barracks. Hazzer (DayZ) 0 Posted June 28, 2012 I recently attempted to gather loot simply by charging into the large, loot filled PvP hotspots like an absolute maniac and discovered that it's incredibly inefficient compared to using discretion to your advantage. I was riddled to death by bandits and clobbered by zombies a countless amount of times.Changing my strategy, me and my friend attempted to cautiously sneak into Elektro and managed to gather a large amount of food, water, medical supplies and ammo before meandering into the nearby forest unscathed. Not once did we encounter a single bandit or aggro a zombie. We proceeded to sneak into a small town, eventually acquiring two shotguns and a ghillie suit, as well as more food and water. We are still going strong and are planning on raiding Stary Sobor this evening.TL;DR: Discretion is key. In less than hour I managed to find:- AK-74 and 3 mags (found double barrel shotgun in first 10 minutes, then Lee Einfield)- makarow and plenty clips- crowbar- map- binos- Alice Backpack- hunting knife- matches- camo suit- tons of bean cans and soda- bandagesMost risky part was a trip to Elektro Hospital to loot some medical supplies, but found morphine, epi-pen and antibiotics with no problems.Zombies alerted: 0Game is very easy for new characters, you can find all needed equipment to survive in first 20-30 minutes. If you run around, don't plan ahead and sneak or spend too much time in hot zones (Cherno, Elektro, Balota Airfield) you might have a problems. Even on my first play through not knowing anything I found a shotgun and a sidearm. I just run randomly up into the woods too.Thing is, you need to know where to look, there's a lot of villages that look tempting, but really aren't. Just because they got zombies around them doesn't mean jack. Have a look at the windows, if they are see through then the house is okay to go in. The further inland you go, the more chance of loot being there. The open houses that have nothing in have already been raided. You might even be playing on a busy server where that areas been looted. Try to think of yourself as bear grylls, that's what I do anyway. What would HE do in that situation?First, he would have a plan!Second, he would find the highest point and get a lay of the land. Thirdly, he'd eat something gross Although he's drop kick a zombie into next week, you're unable to do this, so when you start just run, you're life isn't worth much and it's better than sneaking for ages to a location. When you get close to a hotzone, crouch down and move fast, when close to a zombie make sure he is facing away from you, you can get fairly close so long as you have some cover, NOT on a road and walk while crouched. I've found my life A LOT more simply when I have an axe. They're IMO the best weapon to have when you want to scavenge. When you've found a side arm, put the axe on your toolbelt, though use it when possible. Noise attracts the two things you don't want to attract, gunfire is a big neon sign saying IM HERE, I AM DISTRACTED, I HAVE LOOT, KILL ME!If you're lucky enough to find some matches and axe, a water bottle and a knife, then you're good to go. With these you have NO excuse for dying of thirst or food, meaning you can get the fuck out of dodgeville and head up into the woods and look for secluded places. You might even find a truck. I actually had A LOT of fun on my off road buggy, It doesnt have much fuel but drive along the roads and you'll find some Jerry cans inland. Once you've filled it up, stick the cans in the gear compartment and drive off. I found 5 cans and kept them in the buggy until I could find somewhere to fill them up.If you're bored of this game then imo, you're a boring person. It's a SANDBOX, these types of games you make your OWN fun, not rely on someone else to do it for you. Same can be said for Eve online or even minecraft. grrinc 7 Posted June 28, 2012 Thanks for the advice guys. But like I said, I get quicker results by charging to were I need to go from the off. It works for me. Once I get a few items, I revert back to stealth mode because I have more to protect. But up until that point, I find no fun in crawling around. As I get to understand the maps more, I guess I can play a more stealthy game.
