Direct Chat won't work for me. WHY?!

This is pissing me off. I could never get Direct Chat to work in the mod, and I'm unable to get it working here for whatever reason. I've made contact with several people thus far, and despite my best efforts to communicate with them via typing, they don't respond. I've met several bambis that just stare at me for a moment, and then they pass me by. I've even threatened to shoot people if they don't stop or respond, and to no avail. I haven't heard a single peep from anyone thus far. Why the hell not?

 

I'm not using a microphone at the moment. Does this have anything at all to do with it?

Can you type? Hit "/" i think or "," and you should get dricet chat. You can type or hold caps lock down if u have mike

It might be a fair comment to say that a fair number of people you meet have no idea how ingame chat works so may I recommend the following.

 

Open the chat and say

"Hi there you can talk or reply by pressing the right slash key / to type a response"

 

For my computer in order to use Voice Chat ( default key is CAPS Lock) I had to go into my sound settings ( recording ) enable stereo mix and set stereo mix to Default Device and Default Communication Device - of course a lot of people might be using Skype to talk to their friends or if they are in a good clan/group/guild/whatever they may be using hosted comms like Mumble/Ventrilo/Teamspeak/etc and wont be eager to chat to a total stranger.

 

To test Voice Chat - next time you respawn as a bambi - find another person and hide in a house or out of sight and talk to them with Voice Chat - a person who is unable to see someone else will respond positively to someone saying something - whereas someone who can see another person may not respond in case it's A TRAP.

 

Please do remember not everyone speaks the same language and therefore may not understand "dont move or I shoot" <_<
