UltimateGentleman 355 Posted May 14, 2014 So I'm not sure if it's my computer or what but when I spawn the game is frozen for a good few seconds until it loads properly, I appear to be in the game but can't move for a while. It seems to happen to other people too, one day some guy spawned in a police station right in front of me and he was just standing there immobile for a good 5 seconds...I...I shot him, he had guns, couldn't take the risk...so I think basically he was in the same boat where it's just frozen for a while, it seems like the world around you still functions though because a few times it's started working and I'm already being assaulted by zombies. As though I just stood there and let them come to me when really nothing was happening on screen just a blurry picture of where I spawn. This isn't a complaint thread just wondering if this happens to everyone and what the problem is, the game, connection or the computer? I've got an Alienware X51 which runs the game just fine, my connection is kind of sketchy though.
quantum2k6 348 Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) happens here too, i can see how items get loaded in front of me 3 seconds after im ingame. often on full servers, on empty server this didnt happen and im instant loaded. after this 5 seconds of freezing i can move normally. JimmyGate 41 Posted May 14, 2014 Your character just loads into game on the server side but your client takes a little longer to pull the information.... I think.
Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted May 14, 2014 Same here - I think I've noticed it happening worse on high pop servers. Since I normally camp safely on the 2nd or 3rd floor of buildings, when logging in often I see the ground and a bunch of white objects with no skin applied yet - which are all of the loot objects that can be picked up. I can sometimes see them up to 3 seconds (I try to get a good look for anything I can use!) before the walls of the building start to fill in. I have to guess that this is a temporary behavior and that they'll change it to either preload while you stare at a splash screen and also ensure that you're not visible to other players until you're actually fully logged in and able to move. For now though, it has it's uses as well as it's dangers. Worse than this though is the "Please wait..." message that happens upon trying to log in sometimes. I'll begin to see server messages in the lower left and some other things will happen, but it gets stuck on "Please wait..." with a black screen and sometimes will NEVER come off that screen, even after waiting 10 minutes or more. If I hit escape I can see the part of the map I'm supposed to spawn in just fine, it just seems as though the client and/or server are eternally stuck. I end up having to hit escape, Exit, and look for another server.

Yeah that happens to me a lot too, it's like it just lies when it failed to connect usually if I wait, even like 30 minutes it doesn't load or if I hit exit it just goes back to the server browser as though I never clicked it. I think this 5 or so second wait before you can do things is a bigger problem though, especially if your connection or the server cut out at an airfield or something so when you spawn in another server your character is just standing there in the open for some snipers target practice.I know it will likely be fixed just wondering why it happens, the whole world has to be loaded but could it not just load the vicinity you're in first and quickly so you can be functional immediately, or almost? So like the 100m radius you're in works while the rest loads up, then you can at least hide if you happened to disconnect in a not so safe position.

If you continue waiting you will spawn in, the longest I've had to wait is probably 2 minutes and this usually only happens after a spawn timer. The only time I give up and look for a server is if I get 'Wait for Host' and no server messages on the left hand corner. This usually means the server has frozen and a simple server restart fixes it.

There's a reported bug on this and plenty of people experiencing what I described:http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=8257
