Always starting as new player...

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I just bought DayZ a few days ago and love it.  I've acquired some great info from these boards so I'd like to thank everyone for that.

My question is that every time I go to play the game I start off as a new respawn.  I can't seem to pickup from the last place I left from.  Am I doing something wrong?

maybe you are logging off in populated areas and the combat logging mechanic just happens to keep you ingame long enough for some guy to kill you before you can safely disconnect. either that or your internet is bad and it wont keep your progress or its a remote server.

i've had problems where i picked up loot, got disconnected and the loot wasnt in my pack, but never continuous reset.

Thanks for the quick reply PandaFish. It's weird because It only started happening today.  And I'm always in desolate areas.  I'll run in the wilderness, find a sign, leave the game, study the map to find out where I am, log back in and BAM, new player all over again.  So far it's happened 5 times today.

Welcome to the forums mate.

Make sure you don't have zombies chasing you, or that you aren't in a combat zone, as your character stays active for 30 seconds after you log out, which is plenty of time to get killed.

Also, hardcore servers use a separate database than the regular servers, as they are entirely different characters.

I hope you enjoy the game! It will get frustrating!! Trust me!

Its a love/hate relationship!

Anyways make sure nothing can attack/kill you

Exactly what this guy said. I had a heart attack after a long week of getting great items, logged back in and everything was gone, later to find out I had just entered a Hardcore server and everything was still as normal on a regular server.

i felt the opposite, when i joined a hardcore server by accident, i was relieved to find that all of my things were 'reset' so i could start fresh without supplying some bandit. of course, then i found out i can run two different characters..

im all for starting new, i just dont like supplying other people with MY things!

Wow, I had no idea your character stays active for 30 seconds after logging off.  That makes a huge difference in when I will decide to quit the game.  Very useful info! Thanks for the heads up everyone!  Now, if I could only get these dummies to stop killing on sight .... >:(
