How are animals going to work?

Recommended Posts

Are they just going to spawn in in unlimited amounts like zombies, in specific areas or are there going to be a set amount scattered around the land?

I think the latter should be how it works, rather than infinite deer, like 150 maybe.

When 64 bit servers are up and working anyway they should be able to handle a lot of animals and run longer without resets so if like 60 players are on for 5 hours most of those deer and all the cans of food around the coast at least will be gone.

Would add some actual survival to the game instead of the never ending food supply of spawning animals.

Lets not forget hostile animals.  Bears, wolves, and snakes should be in the game.

I'm OK with them not respawning.

A random scattering of goats, cows, deer, and rabbits that would respawn at server start should be fine.

Well mate, your guess is as good as mine.

My guess is that they are going to spawn randomly and scatter around on plains/forests.

Well yeah those too but I think things we can get food from are more important right now.

I mean you don't want bears chasing you down when zombies are still overpowered right :P

I just really hope they're not like zombies that have no spawn limit it will make the game even easier. It'd be cool if they were hard to kill so you and a couple of buddies could coordinate and get deer to run in view of your sniper and then everyone eats venison round a campfire.

Instead of just oh look a deer 300m away can't see me, bang, dead in one shot, nom.

I like their concept behind global inventory management. I hope they use a similar system to regulate the herds as they regulate the hordes and hoards.

I reckon a living, healthy cow during an apocalypse is a veritable feast! A rare find. It should be that the hive db can poll all servers and respawn animals appropriately to keep populations at a desired static level.

Although I'd love to see an exp server run a test where there is male and female animals with a  . .uhum "respawn" mechanic to see if servers can create an artificial ecosystem that regulates itself.

Zombies should attack animals. Imagine a zombie aggroing a small herd of deer causing them to scatter and flee. At some safe distance the herd slowly coalesces back together again.

Bears/wolves should attack people and zombies. I'd like to see the ability for instance of a lone player to attract a bear from the woods into donwtown cherno so that it runs amok on all the zombies.

If done right, this whole hunting thing is a genius move. Basically we have two games in one, caveat if done right!

Currently I have about 600 M4 rounds and I'd love to slow the pace of the game a bit by creeping through the woods, instead of sprinting, gunning down everything that moves!

They are overpowered? I dont think they are OP at all.  I want them harder. lol

Well, running through walls and making people spray blood with slaps is fairly over powered I'd say...

And I mean more like a deer on a hill that far away has no cover bushes and things won't have rendered that much so it would just be too easy if they spawned all the time to the point where if your guy was hungry all you need do is aim at the nearest hill and woop there's a deer that will satisfy their hunger for ages, they should be something of a challenge.

Yeah that's something I've talked about too it would be awesome if you could kill a deer, get some meat from it, find a bear and with a knife or something leave a trail of meat to get the bear going in the right direction.

Then you could set fire to a big chunk of meat so the bear would smell it and come running, then find a big clan of bandits or something killing people.

When there are hoards of zombies it would be better too instead of just a couple here and there, just so that people can't sit on rooftops all day killing fresh spawns.

(I quoted you above but the quote box kept breaking so just using this)

As far as them running through walls, that is a bit OP. :P  But in the sense that they are slow and very easily killed, they are far from OP.

I agree 100% with the hunting and how zombies should hunt animals and such.  The game already is amazing, and I'm excited for what the future holds for this game.

If a Zombie kills an animal, can we have Zombie animals?  that would be great.

I would have thought that they'd spawn pretty much randomly as they did in the mod. I'm not sure though, we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah so you can lead a bear to kill a horde and have that totally backfire on you because zombie animals only attack living entities, so that bear is gonna come right back at you and be able to take more hits.

It would be great if it worked like that, and you then create a threat to everyone because that zombie bear or zombie wolf could hunt down all the deer and everyone will starve.

It would be so much more fun than just kill zombies and kill hostile animals.

Yeah but when they get the going through walls thing fixed I'm sure they're going to make it so they don't go down with one bullet they certainly have more power ups coming so dangerous animals like bears need to wait until everything else is manageable, sadly.
