How about novelty handcuffs? They're made out of plastic and are easy to break out of, they appear to be real since they're spray-painted silver-ish. Just make sure your hostage doesn't know they're fake. You could also add in rusty handcuffs that are half as durable as regular ones.

Bad handcuffs are sort of already in.

 

Plastic zip ties would be awesome to have though. Like handcuffs without any keys. Could also have other purposes same as rags for splints or used to tape magazines together.

Yeah other people could free you with any sharp objects but how would you get that out of your backpack when you are crouched with your hands behind your back?
