grrinc 7 Posted June 26, 2012 Good day all.I hope folk here will forgive my noobness. I have recently come back to PC gaming after many years of console. DayZ is an amazing game, but I'm currently only able to play late at night ( due to my work hours ). I am unable to find games that I can play during day light hours due to the realistic day/night cycles. So - I am considering financing a server provided by these guys in the UK ...http://www.multiplaygameservers.com/My questions are.......Am I able to alter the GMT - 3 or 4 hours so as to get some daylight into my gaming sessions?AndWhilst I appreciate the server must be fully open to all, is there any scope at all for ensuring a slot is available to me to play on.I hope these are not noob questions that offend. howichrgelazer 69 Posted June 26, 2012 Am I able to alter the GMT - 3 or 4 hours so as to get some daylight into my gaming sessions? While I cannot answer the question for a hosted server' date=' you can if you have access to the system time. You should be able to set the time zone to your preference. As long as it ticks forward like normal time, I don't see why you would get in trouble. (As in set a time zone and leave it. No changing to different time zones to get more light/dak throughout the day)Whilst I appreciate the server must be fully open to all, is there any scope at all for ensuring a slot is available to me to play on.No. There are no reserve slots for DayZ. Not even for the administrator. You can kick lobby idlers, but that's about it in the way of making room for people who aren't squatting.Have you tried filtering for servers in arma for things matching your desired UTC/GMT (ie -5 or +2, etc.) Chances are there are a few servers that will meet your requirements. Might be easier in the long run, DayZ definitely takes a little more TLC to administrate than other online games. Don't let me discourage you from renting, just make sure you're ready for it if you do. ;)
grrinc 7 Posted June 26, 2012 Thanks HowIChrgeLazerMy experiences so far have been using Six Launcher and jumping around randomly hoping to find a good daylight / ping balance. I have not had too much luck to be honest. I have some disposable income and would also like to give back to the community, so I guess this is why I am asking.I'll contact the server guys to see how they are with time altering. Many thanks for your time
mattiaspetersen@yahoo.dk 1 Posted June 26, 2012 It seems the waiting line for getting it approved is quite long too...:(
svardskampe 45 Posted June 26, 2012 There are servers which seem to set back the time every hour, like in runs always 13.30 to 14.30 and then resets back to 13.30. Also, I once saw an admin kicking players to empty it out (while playing), and put a lock on it. I wonder why these servers can while anyone else here on the forums are always telling you can't administrate shit. AND there are servers with their own "savegame". Own player inventory slots and location as well.
vlees 0 Posted June 26, 2012 Kansas 1 (disappeared from server list today but maybe it will come back) was running on GMT+9 or something which makes it being daylight when it's night in the UK.But as I said: this server disappeared and the current Kansas server runs on GMT+0.5 (for whatever reason).I found a server in France (called "SPAIN versionnumber;otherinfo") running on GMT-8 though, so there it's also daylight during your night, and from Holland my ping was around 11-20ms. fenrix 9 Posted June 26, 2012 pretty sure server runs off the servers clock. not sure you need permission to change that as it is not part of day z but your computers settings :)
dizzymagoo 19 Posted June 26, 2012 The in game time is based off the physical server clock. It IS okay to set the server forward time as long as it ticks like a normal clock. My servers run a 5 hours off set because I work late as well and like to play during the day. As for the long line, be patient.

I believe a server got blacklisted before because of it.My server seems to have day only' date=' but it worked fine before and i haven't changed anything.Any ideas?[/quote']How often do you reboot your server? An Arma2 server running DayZ should be rebooted every 4-8 hours to help the de-sync problems.
grrinc 7 Posted June 27, 2012 OP hereI messaged the server rental company. It would appear that time tinkering is not possible on rented servers, because they are shared machines. This is a shame, because it means I am cursed to playing Day Z in pitchblack. This cant be right surely? Oh well, I'm sure they have their reasonsfor this.Thank you for input guys.
