3x better fps when in menu or chatting

Getting really bad fps such as 10 per second

When I open chat or Esc menu then fps goes up to 30 or more.

Would like to ask if anyone knows how to make this permanent without opening my chat or menu, can't really play with those open.

 

Setup:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz (8 CPUs) Boosts to 3.1GHz when necessary

6144MB RAM

GT555M 3GB VRam

 

I know it's a laptop but it used to run ARMA 2 DayZ mod much better than now.

I have this same exact problem and this was the only place I could find it at. 

 

My game starts up at around 50 fps for a good few minutes, all is great. Then about 10 minutes later im struggling to get 20fps. Eventually after about 20 minutes i quit with 10-15 fps. At any time if i use the chat button or press escape to bring up the pause menu my fps goes back to its normal state, as long as the menu is up. 

 

 

This is extremely annoying and it never did this before. Haven't played the mod in a while and can't find a fix.
