NewtoThis 20 Posted April 28, 2014 (edited) First off I want to give praise to the game especially being in its alpha stage of development. I love the game's concept, graphics, and attention to all the little details in such a big space. The thing that just drives me nuts is fighting, either armed or not. Unarmed - It's a little rock'em-sock'em basic. The 'lag' between punches or knowing you've been hit is really bad as well. Killing two zombies last night after they fell down dead I then registered myself being hit. In fact one required bandages! I really don't think lag should be an issue in 2014 :) Armed - Hitting a zombie with a sickle..well should be more eventful and painful. Hitting a zombie with anything in the game besides a stick should be more eventful and take a lot less effort.. blows to the back of the head should probably split it open or at least make them unconscious (if thats possible for a zombie). Last but not least I encountered an unarmed player who decided to fight me even though I had a crow bar. I was out in two punches even though I registered two crow bar hits... Just a little strange I apologize if this looks like a rant! I just wanted to share my experiences and see what others think. btw001 19 Posted April 28, 2014 1. Lag is a huge issue in 2014. I don't know what world you live in, but it sounds pretty nice.2. Melee combat is a little... dodgy.... Kinda gotta deal with it sadly.
jjkjwo6@yahoo.com 5 Posted April 28, 2014 (edited) Youre talking about a game engine from 2009, which is just a remake from an engine from 2001 DAYZ diddnt make any of those details, they were on the chenarus map for years. the only thing DAYZ did in standalone was make a few houses open so that you can enter them Dont forget this is just ARMA2, with zombies added. zombies that have been bugged for 3 years Edited April 28, 2014 by jjkjwo

NewtoThis 20 Posted April 28, 2014 btw001 - I guess I got lucky.. Lag hasnt been an issue since my first connection of 20Mb Up/down 5 years ago and certainly isnt an issue with my now gigabit fiber =) Plus my overkill nature ended up building a PC that can handle the game on the highest settings so I dont think thats contributing to my lag/combat issue. Being a console junky too I'm unfamiliar with the Arma series either so didn't know this gamed spawned from something that old! Either way, excellent idea and very cool game with a lot of potential... I'm just excited to see if combat will improve. Confirmation from a developer of the game or possibly a road map to improve these features would be interesting to find out. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the input. network latency is only one aspect of noticable interaction lag. from what i gathered, most of the lag we experience in DayZ is due to the server-side part of the game, so neither your machine nor your network can fix this (apart from the fact that the game in its current state is suffering from the age of its engine, so its miserably utilizing multithreading, multiple gpus and as a 32bit app cant address more than 2GB ram) as for the future, i can definitely recommend watching Deans presentation from Rezzed 2014 where he also unveiled the latest roadmap: in any case, welcome to the game - and the community. both are sometimes rough around the edges but lovable nevertheless ;) P.S: oh before i forget: http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/the devblog is definitely worth following. if you can figure out reddit, Dean 'rocket' Hall is regularly communicating and the dayz subreddit has some great things going on, and we also get quite frequently newsbits from the devs via twitter, so if your a newswhore like me, there are a few worth monitoring.
