Aircraft Properties and Implementation Ideas

Recommended Posts

I came up with this idea after reading Dean's Q&A session were he talks about the Importance of aircraft.

"Yes. I think helicopters and small aircraft will be important. But they should be very complex to maintain."

And Here is my idea. The Dayz Team talked about their Loot System and how it would be Handled by a Master server. for example If only 1 item was allowed for the Whole Dayz Community, this system would allow only 1 item to be given to a player.

Aircraft Spawning:Aircraft in this case should obviously be extremely rare. I would like to see the Aircraft to be characterized in rarity by their ability for their S.T.O.L. (Short TakeOff and Landing) capabilities. for Example (if they were to add)Jets would be less common than Small Aircraft because Jets Need more take off room and Landing space, and on Chernarus Large Runways are limited. Next to Jets in rarity would be Large Twin Aircraft(Beach 1900). And after than would be Small Single engine Planes like cessnsa's (172 ETC) and After those would be TairDraggers (C180, PiperCub,) and Helicopters should be Extremely Rare due to the fact they can land Anywhere.

Aircraft Spawning State: The state at which and Aircraft spawns is a very important part of the game Mechanics. I think aircraft should spawn in Extremely Rare cases Empty with no fuel. I also believe the aircraft should be in Extremely broken down states Like, there is no fuel, engine Oil, Battery Dead, Broken Avionics, Broken Landing gear, Damaged or Missing Airfoils, No propeller, and No or Extremely damaged engine. AND All of these this that are Not damaged should be Breakable (Hard Landing, Tail Strike, and Crash).

This is my Idea in a whole, I appreciate comments, opinions and  questions. Thank you for Reading.

Good read, the mechanics in vanilla dayz mod I thought were quite fitting and would suite SA well even if rariety was boosted up a notch.  They were similar to what you have posted here and kept servers from going overboard and having loads of OP equipment operating around the map.

I mostly agree with your idea. If the aircraft was abandoned, it would likely be for a reason. The reason in most cases would be that it is broke down. I don't think helis should necessarily be rarer than planes though. Its the parts that should be rare.

Parts really depends on the type or plane or helicopter. This also goes into ease of maintenance.

Small aircraft such as your cessna 172 or Piper Cherokees, are actually really fucking simple to fly and maintain. The engine is usually a horizontally opposed 4 or 6 cylinder engine that is air cooled and pretty much an oversized lawn mower engine. Long as you keep the oil full, the only things that usually go on the engine is accessories such as your starter (in which case you can hand crank it), carb, alternator and magnetos. In fact, most of those things are actually car parts they made work. I could go on forever on like this but in general, long as there is no structural damage or destroyed critical for flight items ( Gear, wings and control surfaces), you can get the thing flying. Instruments don't matter much when your flying purely visual. Long as I have an engine tach, flying the airplane is pretty easy. Hell you don't even need a battery or alternator to keep the engine running.  Only hard part would be timing the mags due to a specialized and semi rare thing as a aircraft timing light.

Now something like a russian fighter jet..........................................Odds of getting that flying from FUBARed is practically 0. At least with a small plane like a Cessna, you can rob parts from all over.

TL;DR Difficulty of fixing should be based on each kind of plane as it is. Small piston powered plane: simple to fix, abundant parts save for avionics and specialized parts Small piston powered helicopter: still fairly simple but gearbox and rotor blades being much harder to find parts. Any advanced turbine powered plane or helicopter would be near impossible due to the skills needed to fix, parts rarity and SO MANY WIRES.

License Aircraft mechanic speaking from experience. Airplanes are easier than cars.
