The same sort of thing used to happen (and still does to my knowledge) when one climbs the ladders of a Deer Stand.

A nice glitch. It just seems to be a lighting issue. Another weird lighting issue is that if you are in a building, a tent, or barrack, and the sun is being covered by the roof or top cover. When you step right outside and you have direct access to the sun, a weird thing happens in the sky and the sun turns into this huge black blob on your screen for a few good seconds.
