Use campfire to boil canteens filled at ponds/lakes

Recommended Posts

Pretty self-explanatory:

Add disease risk to drinking canteen water filled from ponds/lakes.

Make the water bottle say it's filled with dirty water.

Allow players to boil the water in canteens using a campfire.

Boiling turns dirty water into clean water.

Dirty water - infection risk from drinking

Clean water - no risk from drinking

Obviously canteens filled at pumps wouldn't be at risk.

Why would the lakes be dirty? The map isn't exactly California with smog and pollution everywhere. I'm pretty sure I didn't see any sewage pipes going into the lakes, The Chernarus landscape seems pretty untainted tbh, just a few small towns, most of it is untouched natural habitat and farmland etc before the outbreak I would imagine the overall population was rather small in the first place and unlike say, an African village they probably had efficient ways of dealing with sewage, waste and water treatment, so I'm not sure why you think the water would be contaminated int the first place.

P.S Also aren't the canteens made from plastic? I'm pretty sure they would melt on a fire ><

There's bacteria in all water, you always run this risk. I'm not talking cancer here, I'm talking bacteria. Take a trip overseas, especially places like South America and India, the natural bacteria can make you sick. Same thing applies where you live, it'll just happen much less. Plus you've got whatever zombie outbreak, and now we've got tons of festering infected trolling around; that's gotta count for something.

There's a reason soldiers pack water purification tablets.

Yeah I can agree with that, its just when you hear about water based viruses its typically from polluted/dirty water they're typically in largely populated areas, with hygiene issues relating to sewage contamination. Out in the sticks however rivers etc are usually safe to drink from so long as they are untainted, I agree about zombies contaminating water though but the reason I didn't mention it though was because if the virus affecting zombies was able to be destroyed simply by boiling it then I doubt the virus was strong enough to have infected the planet in the first place :p. I don't think the water would be safe to drink, had a zombie "infected" it, even after boiling. Also I still don't see a way to boil the water if the canteen is plastic :-/

Nice idea though, :) but the sickness you would probably get from dirty water would be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dysentery wouldn't it? Not sure if I want to spent half the game having to take a shit in the woods haha. :)

Lastly, I feel that were this implemented, the masses, sadly, wouldn't probably avoid water and simply stock up on Pepsi :(

P.S Have to say as well, not all bacteria is harmful, some is actually helpful and sold to the public for consumption! :D
