US Kansas 1 [LOCKED]

Any server admin around from this one? Need to get my stuff but seems like its been down a full day now.

Sorry that I missed this post earlier guys.

Deltron3O3O, I'm not usually a rude person, and I'll try to say this in a nice way, but I really, really dislike people like you that come into these forums every time a server is locked for a few minutes and cry about it.

Do you think it's your job to snitch on people? The majority of server hosts put a lot of time and effort into keeping their DayZ servers running well, and when they come to these forums and see someone reporting them for something like this... it's like a slap in the face.

Anyway, I am the owner of Kansas 1 (now US 155 - Kansas 1 and US 156 - Kansas 2). I knew it was just a matter of time before I saw one of these posts for my server, so I'm not really concerned.

Yes, the server was locked.

Yes, mfwic and doodles were in the server at that time.

And I will explain why below.

Before that, I just want to mention that when the server is locked, it CLEARLY states [locked for maintenance] in the title. I think that should give you a clue to why it was locked :dodgy:

On to the explination:

I recently was white-listed for a second server, which will be the veteran mode twin of Kansas 1. I have been working on getting the second server setup and have been testing to make sure everything is running smoothly. mfwic and doodles help me check the status of the server when I'm working on it. I want these servers to run as well as they can when I put them online.

And yes Lazermatt, the server was down yesterday. It should be online today soon and I'm hoping to do some stress testing. During that time, Kansas 1 will be capped at 40 players and Kansas 2 will be capped at 20 players. Once I confirm that the server can handle the load, I will put both servers at 40, and then hopefully up to 50.

As far as the nuking and barbed wire... I won't really be doing anything about that. It is up to rocket, BI and the guys at BEC to take care of that kind of thing if they want this mod to be successful.

If you are able to pinpoint the players that did the nuking, or cheating, please report it on the website at n0ob.com . The website has also been down for the past few weeks, but I'm turning it back on today just to have the support ticket system working again.

I am also in the process of creating an 'official' thread on these forums for the server, so you will be able to report stuff like this there as well.

As always, I thank those that play on my server and I look forward to working with everyone to make it a stable place to play.

And deltron... don't be a dick.

Cheers for the update! Would be nice to have somewhere where we could get updates like this. After choosing this server as our home server it was getting a bit worrying seeing everything I own is in a tent or two in this server.

Thanks for the info Jeff, was beginning to panic as our group has just recently decided to make this our home server haha. Great to hear about the official thread and everything, me and my group will be sure to let you know if we run into any hackers and the likes. :)

On a side note, whenever the server is locked, I use the same password: ihelptest

Anyone with that password is welcome to hop in the server, even when I'm doing maintenance. Just expect abrupt server restarts. I only lock it to keep un-aware people from loosing their progress when a restart happens.

I'm working on the servers right now. I'll update this thread when I get them back online.

Scott, usually when vehicles and tents disappear, it's a problem with the server pulling info from rockets main database. I've seen it in the logs before. After a server restart, it usually reconnects and the items re-appear where they were before.

That may or may not be the case here. I'll look at the logs from today and see if it happened. Check your camp again now that I'm done screwing around with the servers.

Thanks a lot Jeff the server restart fixed our camp back to the way it was! Played on the Vet server and it was good fun. Crosshairs are still on though (don't know if it's intended). Hope the stress test turns out how you wanted it!

I am very confused on why you need to be IN GAME on a server that is 'Locked for Maintenance'

First of all, you don't need to be in the server itself in game to 'Do work on the server.' Its all done off server.

If you have to update your server, the server is taken down.

If you have to change the MOTD or anything else, your server is taken down.

You don't use 'two' people to see if the server is working properly. That is complete nonsense. By the time you notice any performance issues/concerns with the server, you'd need to have well over 20 or more players.

With how the servers are setup, there is no reason a server ever needs to be locked.

You are simply wrong. There are reasons. I encountered sync problems with the hive, objects didnt save, load or just did it partially...it took me 3 hours of restarting and setting up tents to ensure its finaly working and for this I needed some people on the server to help me searching for tents in fact admins cant spawn stuff(thank god).

You are right. Changes are done in the backend but the testing has to be done on the server. And he stated above that he locked the server to prevent issues from frequent restarts. Nobody wants to play on a server restarting every 5 minutes or more...if you do that even with [maintance] in name I bet those dudes that complain about your server being locked right now come here and complain about your restarts.

Hive issues? You don't control the Hive having problems...That's the database and not exactly in our control. There have been Hive Issues for the last...forever...

Tents on the otherhand... Fuck Tents.

I dont control the database but I control the server hanging on the database and the communication with that database is executed on my server and having wrong files/settings may disturbe that communication. So you are again wrong that I cant control hive problems.

And realy fuck tents? My playerbase would kill me if I give a shit on their tents/vehicles (oh yeah if tents dont spawn vehicles dont do it neither) its a question of service for me to keep it up running with all the features the game provides and if anything goes wrong I investigate and either find a solution on my side or wait for a fix if it is a global problem.

Ravin... I was deploying a second server. The two guys were in Kansas 1 while Kansas 2 was starting up because I wanted to make sure the new server wouldn't have any impact on either server. I also wanted to make sure the motd and restart warning scripts were working ok and it is easier for them to just say 'hey that warning is working ok!' on skype while i'm working on the other server. I don't see how this is hard to understand.

I don't need to defend myself anyways... Kansas 1 has been up for around a month now' date=' and it's been locked for a total of maybe 30-40 minutes. I take heavy offence at anyone accusing me of abusing my admin powers. So... to anyone that wants to accuse me... go fuck yourself.

And I'm not saying that to you Ravin, or anyone else in this thread... That's just how I feel about this topic. DayZ server admins put a lot of money and time into providing a service for the community and they get very little reward for it. If you see an admin clearly abusing their power, you have responsibility to [b']COLLECT CLEAR EVIDENCE and post it in the CHEAT REPORTING area of the forums. Putting BS stuff like this on the forums is not productive and it's definitely not helping the community any.


I won't be posting in this thread again. If you have problems with my servers, please post in the new Kansas 1 & 2 thread.

I just need to point out that MrSherenai is not talking about the Kansas servers. He has his own servers and was simply defending my statements.

MrSherenai, I appreciate your input. I understand that there are admins that abuse their power and it's good to hear from those who actually care about debugging, along with having good fun :P

But seriously Deltron... If you see something wrong with my servers, post it in the official Kansas 1 & 2 server thread.

And seriously... do a better job collecting evidence. There is nothing in that screenshot that proves that it was in one of my servers, or that it was taken by you even, or what time it was taken, or who was in the server at that time... Next time, hit I to bring up the Multiplayer Stats window and take a second screenshot. That will show what server you are in, as well as a list of players in the server (it's not a full list, so you may want to hit P or whatever key brings up the full player list and get a screen of that too).

It's obvious that the Jets were hacked in, but there is no point of reporting stuff like this if you don't provide at the very least the date/time that this happened.
