New Player help with connecting to DayZ SA servers

Hi All,

 

I'm new to DayZ, never played the Arma 2 mod.  I cannot even begin to play - I start DayZ and am able to set up my character, etc and get a list of servers.  The problem is when I select a server and try to connect I get a 'Confirmation of Changes.  Connection Failed'  message (at least I think that is the wording).  When I try to connect again it fails again and when I refresh the server list there are no servers.

 

When I exit DayZ I find that my internet connection has been killed and the only way I can restore it is to reset the modem.

 

My basic info: Win 7 home Premium 64-bit SP1, Cisco E1500 router, CenturyLink 660 series modem.

 

This is really frustrating, I have never had an issue with internet connectivity with any other app.  If anyone has suggestions on what the issue may be it would help immensely.
