Steam Sharing

Hello, my friend has been wanting DayZ standalone for a while now but he has to wait to get it because his parents are saying no. Is there any way I can share the game on steam with him for the time being? The steam sharing is weird and I can't seem to find any good tutorials on it. Can somebody help?

Give him your account login information, and prepare to replace your account shortly thereafter once it gets banned.

 

Never share your account, dude. He either coughs up the cash for his own copy, or doesn't play. There is no "sharing" beyond family, and if I recall THAT sharing has to be sourced from the same IP.

Steam sharing requires you to authorize his pc using your account, i.e you need to login on the computer you want to authorize. click on the "steam"-button utmost left top, go to the family tab and click "authorize this computer". Once that's done when he logs in he'll see your library of games and be able to download/play these games.

 

However he won't be able to play them when you're playing -any- other game.

 

Not sure what the policy is regarding non-family members though.

My friend tried it and it won't work. He has the game in his games library now but it says "purchase"

Not exactly, consider the games you own as each being a unique cd that's required to run the game, and you're lending this out (without the fear of never seeing the cd back)

Obviously it's to prevent people from sharing their library with multiple others and thus avoiding everyone buying a copy

My only issue is that when you're playing a different game the shared members can't play another game as well (i.e. if I'm playing rust my brother can't play Ass creed etc..)

 

but it's really only meant for family so people can segregate their saves and characters (preferably) on a single pc without having to share accounts as well.

Yup pretty much.

 

Whilst it says "Family" in the name, almost all of the time Valve makes a post about it they mention "Friends and Family". For example, their official FAQ;

I'm generally weary of lending things out to "friends" ever since I've gotten my runescape account stolen by one, that's a scar made many many years ago that'll never heal.

 

Family however is more difficult to get rid of  :lol:

Then he's too young to play DayZ and chances are, so are you.

 

Respect his parents wishes & respect the wishes of the DayZ community, who don't want to act as childcare: Go play something else.
