Normally the give away sign that someone is up to no good is yelling 'please help me!'. Don't let it turn you evil against weaker survivors, just remember that there are many ways of helping people in need, just drop bandages in future.

Aye, when I'm helping people, which is rarity, - not because I usually kill them, but because I rarely encounter friendly people - I never perform an action on them unless absolutely necessary. 

 

1. Never perform medical instance in the open unless absolutely necessary.

2. Never go near someone until you've scanned the surroundings for players.

3. Never put your gun away.

Needless to say, it's always a bad idea to let someone get that close.

 

Don't tolerate suspicious behaviour (taking an unreasonable amount of time to comply/respond, fidgeting around, inching closer). When I encounter someone, I always make it clear that I'm very easily startled.
