frozenjaws 69 Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) Well basically i was running around the world of chernarus and came by a castle that overlooked a fairly big city and thought, wouldnt it be cool to see someone from up here, but when i had briefly looked through the streets and buildings being disappointed i didnt see anyone, i thought, ok now ill try and kill a zombie from up here, but i couldnt see any, and i had just come from the town so i knew zombies were all over. I looked in settings for a view distance to increase, but fell short on my ass, checked some forums and realized the dayz sa view distance was quite alot smaller then the one in the mod..So i wanted to know, is it coming?Do we need more view distance? *Edit, i was unclear about what i wanted added, what i mean is that i want to see people and zombies render in all of the view distance. Murlough 192 Posted April 9, 2014 I believe they will add binoculars in a future update but as for upgraded super human vision i doubt it :P.
Katana67 2907 Posted April 9, 2014 While I do think that the fog needs to be moved back, there are already a lot of variables which are client-side that help indefinitely (i.e. gamma, ATOC, AA, etc.) Not entirely sure it's shorter than in the mod.

teapot156 79 Posted April 9, 2014 Change object detail to normal at the very least and everything is rendered properly, bugs notwithstanding.

Bororm 1156 Posted April 9, 2014 The view distance is a lot greater than the mod, it's always super clear and you can see forever and I constantly wish I had a sniper gun =P The issue is without a scope (and potentially binocs) you currently can't see players/zombies very far. A person with a scope can see you past a certain point (like 400-500m) and you can't see them. So I agree that players should render in further, I also think they should bring back the "focus" zoom when using a weapon. As it stands, unless you have a scope, most engagements are hardly past even 200m, usually much closer 100m or less. In the mod you could engage people with iron sights fairly easily up to 300m and even further with enough practice, which was a lot more interesting imo. For instance, in the mod a person without a scope had a much better chance of dislodging a player from the hospital roof in elektro from the hills, good luck with that now. teapot156 79 Posted April 9, 2014 Its on highDid you change any of those settings in your .ini file ? Like the ones that are recommended for performance?
solodude23 649 Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) I never thought the view distance or object view distance was low myself (run objects at max), but you can edit the following values in 'username.DayZProfile' file in My Documents -> DayZ. These are the defaults: shadowZDistance=100;viewDistance=2000;preferredObjectViewDistance=1600; If you decide to change em, make sure you go to the file's properties and check 'Read-only' so they don't default when you start the game. sigginat0r 1 Posted April 9, 2014 Well, in fact you can't see players or zombies over 1000m distance. That's how the network bubble works. Would be nice to get a statement if the bubble will get increased to the view distance once the performance allows this, or will it always only be 1000m? Does that change how far people/zombies will be visible?
gibonez 3633 Posted April 10, 2014 The actual view distance is quite nice in stand alone. The problem is the player/object render distance. What good is a 2km view distance if players and objects only render in at 800m.
