New zombies mess me up, how do you win?

Recommended Posts

Dude, I went from being fully geared.  Took some time off, and now I can not survive.  Melee seems to be impossible.  The zeds just flail around not even coming near me half the time.  the other times they hit me with out trying.  Wtf is up with the ninja zombie running through walls?  Some mix between Usain Bolt, Kitty Pryde, Snake-eyes, and a blind retard on redbull.

Whats the new strategy here?  I used to be able to roll into town, snipe some zeds and defend myself accordingly.  Using buildings and trees to get away.  Now I spend 99% of my time running and melee is not working out for me.  Especially inside.

I know I am going to get the 'it's alpha' post, but this alpha wasn't that bad before.

How much do we have to pay to get the walking dead and not world war z(the movie)?

One word:

Fireaxe. 1 hit kill. Get that one and Z are no problem any more.

Splitting axe: 2 hits to kill. Solo Zs are not much of a problem, hordes still are.

With all the rest, you have to go for the head. A solo Z can be beaten dead with fists/all other melee weapons easily, if you aim about 1 centimeter above the head and drop it. When it gets up, punch it to the ground again. Rinse and repeat.
I only found the baseball bat to be totally useless, as I can't hit the head when using it.

I haven't had a problem with melee yet and I was able to defend myself for a good 45 minutes with nothing but a pipe wrench.

Sounds like you just need to be more aware of your surroundings?

Use weapons and just keep moving. Sometimes I have 2 zeds on me while im looting and I just keep yankin and bankin. Otherwise I have to run out of town with them on me and do a huge circle to get them off. Tis the way of the world.

You can't complain about the the alpha phase process of developing a game where things can get better and worse (or more difficult). I 100% agree about zombies going through walls but in alpha phase things change up and down.

Last I checked this is DayZ and not the walking dead nor world war z. Did you buy this blindly thinking it would always be the walking dead? That's bad consumer research man.

When I first started, only just over a week, zombies did irritate me, mainly because I didn't like running away from them, I just tried to kill them Rocky Balboa style and see if they dropped any loot, which they never have, until I learned about hitting them in the head (obvious zombie technique), then finding a few weapons, baseball bat is useless though, slow swing, inaccurate and hard against fast zombies, best item is a fire axe, find one of those, and you're safe, even in hordes of about six+... melee weapons for zombies, guns for humans.

"run"  not only is this a waste of time but it is boring lol

"Back to the 90's - CIRCLE STRAFE. They'll never touch you."  I might have to try this!

Yeah this was my issue i think.  Was trying to use the bat and had no chance.

I like the circling around town idea.  Seems to be the only things that has worked (breaking LOS)

miidas - had to be one troll right?  cool story bro, you so boss.. I mean yocheco619 was close but at least he was productive at the beginning of his post.

I do miss being able to run through buildings and having the zombies slow down and then exiting out the back.  This was a bit easy but still made it tough if players saw you.

Using the pipe wrench I couldn't hit anything.. that thing is so SLOW.. inside buildings is indeed a bitch as well..

Though with anything sharp like a farming hoe or a axe (whatever kind) and use 3th person it is all good.. Can't hit anything in first person though. those things run so fast and fly around I just keep losing track of them xD

More good adivce from recklezz.  I put this all together and made a video.  Sadly it is not on my good pc and not with the right settings but using the ole defense and strafing helped a ton.  I ended up, while not recording killing a few zombies with out bleeding  (also sucks to record on a bad pc in an urban setting)

Little help can make a game go from bad / frustrating to fun very quickly

if possible, use high ground in stairs. Also hit early. zombies are somewhat closer than they appear to be, and your hit-animation is usely somewhat delayd. Works for me atleast.

I'll try that for sure!  Laggy server might be an issue.  I try to filter by ping but you never know

Use something we like to call: common sense. Did you take everything you read here literally? Thats bad research man.

A lot of walking dead fans like 'classic Romero' Zombies. I am of this camp. We want the zombies to be walkers, slowly shuffeling around, roaming, and then when aggro'ed break into a jog. For a point of reference, the speed they were at pre-update was about right, if only there was more of them and they were considerably dangerous. For the purpose of good gameplay, a mid-speed between the pre-update and post-update speed of running would be about right for me personally. I think their current sprint speed doesn't even match their animation, it almost looks as if they treadmill-accelerated running.

Fire axe, that's it. I take on 5 at a time maximum and it seems to hit with both sides of the axe blade. On the up and down swing I seem to get hits and it may have been lag but I swear I got a double zombie kill with one swing today. Also if I have a zombie on me I rarely tske them on inside. Walls get in the way, the floor gets in the way. Run outside to do battle.
